Am I the only one who feels there’s little to none armor variety before level 80?? I’m seeing level 30 characters walk around with armor skins from level 1. Is this normal?? I searched around a bit on the forums and guild wars 2 wiki and found a lot of awesome looking armors, but they are either directly from dungeons, cultural armors (which only consist of 3 sets per armor type, and are exclusive to your race), or karma armor that costs 40k karma per piece.

Am I missing something?

yes you are missing something.
I think every armour type gets a different “standard” around every ten levels.
I do find the lack of armour skins a little frustrating though.
The same can be said of weapons.
Bear in mind though that in the long term you will be level 80 and there is lots to choose from. The weapon drops in Orr have some brilliant models. I just love the hammer model from that zone. It is like a massive lump of coral and sea floor on a pole, and it is big and scary looking!

Think there were like 3-4 common skin sets for leveling that I recall on my characters. But for the most part there are a few places to get unique sets, I’ve yet to find them but I’ve read that there are. Goodluck on your hunt though.

I think it was done this way on purpose, so people will get. Cultural Armor, Dungeon Gear, and or Exotics. Do to the unique way they look. Have you seen the Thief Gear yet? From 20 level Al————>ll the way to 80. It is the long coat combo, and it all looks the same.

lolwut? That’s re-assuring. It’s not your response that bothers me but the clear lack of armor before 80. I’m not a huge MMO player, but from what Arena Net markets, GW2 “seems” to be a casual, easily accessible MMO. But the fact that you have boring looking armor sets unless you dungeon crawl, or karma farm really defeats the purpose….

Even Thieves got a few decent armor sets before level 80, you’ll find em eventually. But, yeah, sometimes it sure feels like there ain’ much ta choose from, an’ when ya do, ya might fine everyone else is wearin’ yer armor! The dye tool is great for personalizin’ yer wardrobe, an’ can make some really mediocre armors look down right wearable.

I did wear me Tier 1 Human Racial Armor for the longest time, seein’ as it was one ah the only armor types in my range what didn’ make me look like ah hooker. But now I’ve got about 4 outfits different enough ta wear aroun’. (I use allota transmutation stones)

Also check out crafted armours, they add more variety to level10-80 journey. If you dont like crafting yourself, you can get them pretty cheaply sold by players leveling their crafts from the trading post.
I personally lovet the looks of some of the light and heavy crafted sets for females

There’s a sticky at the top of this forum to a website.

http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/index.html

And then there’s the wiki.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_set

Using those pictures, and then the sources described on the wiki, you can put your head together to discover how to find the armor you want.

Yes, don’ feel ya gotta stick with one armor from top ta bottom; I mix an’ match my armors for the best look.

Mind you, some of that cool armor comes from drops – so there’s no guarantee if or where you’ll get it Also, DO mix and match – it does look good most of the time, and adds a lot of variety
In general, you can get lots of variety if you just mix between crafting armor, karma armor, armor drops and the stuff you get from your personal story, quite early on. If you played GW1, you also have the heritage armor to choose from. Frankly, I don’t think I’m wearing any lvl 80 skins at lvl 80…would have to check though.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there isn’t any cool armour, particularly if you are a human female medium armour class. Just lots of horrible looking stuff…

That’s personal opinion, really I find most of the female medium armor pretty cool, but then I love coats…I hate most of the female light armor though.

Yup, a personal opinion, but one shared by many ….
Not a fan of coats, and even less so with the way they are designed here.

PS: If you don’t believe me, check the ranger forum, There is a thread running about this.

Once again coming from a newbie to this game.. ANet took how long to create this game? 5yrs or more.. correct? In all that time they couldn’t of come up with more gear designs from lvl 0 to 80? Hmmm

While I can understand it if people complain about not enough designs catering to their taste of not enough variety between the different styles, I kind of don’t understand how you can complain about an overall lack of gear designs oO YOu did look at the armor gallery, right?
Besides, adding new skins is always an easy way to add new content…

Considering the designs they did come up with look like something from a bad acid trip, I would rather see less then more. My eyes hurt enough whenever in LA as it is …

I would be happy if there was 1 set of female leather armour that actually looked like female leather armour…

I don’t get people hating on medium armor…i think GW2 has the BEST medium armor in any game I’ve ever played.

I love almost all the armor except that kitten PIRATE CRAP AAAAAR! (and cloth)

Just saying, but you can transmute cool looking lvl80 armor into any lower lvl armor. If you select stats of 40 lvl gear it will become lvl40 gear.

Most of the dropped armor are generally just a few variety types (i think 4-5 flavors of looks). Karma vendors in areas every 10 levels or so will have another flavor out there.

Yes it’s limiting but not horrible as you can mix and match and with dyes come out with several very different looking armor sets.

that looks like the PVP set. But it still is the long coat combo. The major difference for the Female humen medium armor is the Duelist set, but it is only level 78 gear.

yeah, the duelist set is pretty nice… tho its a shame that they didnt include many other armor sets like it
the only other i can think of is the human tier 3 cultural… which is way outside some users hands from a price perspective

also yeah that coat is the guild medium armor set, if your guild has that upgrade available….. and then i think the AC karma vendor uses that style too, except your guild logo wont show on the front

I don’t get people hating on medium armor…i think GW2 has the BEST medium armor in any game I’ve ever played.

Then you need to play more games …

I could fill this thread with 100’s of images of various great styles and types of leather and/or medium armour from other games, many made by modders and not so called ‘professional’ designers.

The problem with MMO’s is that you are stuck in one persons vision of how the game should look. Single-player games with a good modding community can let you select the look and feel you want in the game.

Having to put up with someone’s very bad notions of armour design will be one of the main factors that drives me away from GW2 …

I’m really curious about your notions of good armor design now (not that I don’t have my pet peeves with the GwW2 armor design) – could you show us some examples of what you deem ‘good armor design’?

If want to see examples, search mod downloading sites for games that that have active modding communities. Here is the link to the Nexus site for Skyrim:
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/

You can access all the other Nexus sites through the nexus network menu.
Select ‘Categories’, and go the armour section.

Not saying everything listed in there is great, there is ugly stuff as well, but at least you have access to a vast variety for all sorts of tastes, with some being very well done. Remember, these are done by people who enjoy the games, and not game developers.

See, that’s why I was asking for specific examples of what you consider “good” armor design I was really just curious about your personal opinion, not what a bucnh of other people may or may not find good in other games.
