Is there a trick to finding cloth for crafting? It seems like the ratio of cloth (and, to a lesser extent, leather) is way below that of the other materials.

Example: I usually 100% a map and gather everything I see, then go back to the stations to craft. In my last pass, I ended up with 452 metal and a lot of random gems, 326 wood, 85 leather, 122 random food items…and 4 cloth. I’m not sure why they decided to make leather and cloth entirely randomized drops as opposed to metal, wood and food items, but that seems to make certain tradeskills very difficult to progress in, at least as far as I have managed to get. Oh, and yes, I salvage everything that I can’t wear on the farming character.

A friend suggested that perhaps it is intended to use the trading post to supplement by selling materials I don’t use to get those I do, but this doesn’t work if you have alts using those materials and you are trying to save up for the next trait manual.

So are there specific places that drop more cloth at each tier, or am I just REALLY unlucky with the randomization?

AFAIK Most of the cloth you make from scraps that you get from salvaging cloth armour and “clothing scrap” style items

I totally agree with this, I tried out Tailoring but it’s just not worth it in my opinion. Cloth is really expensive on the trading post so it’s a lot cheaper if you want armor upgrades to buy those instead.

Yes, I got most of my cloth from salvaging light gear and cloth salvage items.
