I came from World of Warcraft because it is boring now…this game is new and looks fun. My question is: which class should I play as I am new to Guild Wars 2? I like casting spells from range and I looked on many Guild Wars 2 websites and found 3 classes that suit me. Elementalist, Necromancer and Mesmer. In World of Warcraft, these are similar to Mage, Warlock and Shadow Priest. I like all 3 of them equally but which one would be the best?

Create one of each and play them through an entry level, then pick the one you enjoy the most.
I am currently leveling a Necro and have enjoyed it very much. I have good survivability and power output both ranged and melee.
I have an Elementalist, but I haven’t really focused on him for a while. I have not created a Mesmer so I have no experience with them in this game.

Ele/Necro are good in PvE. Ele takes a bit more skill in lower levels but once you get to level 80/fully geared everything will be a cake walk. Ele you have to constantly switch attunements, which will be confusing and frustrating at first but when you get the pattern down and know the skills, it’ll seem like a reflex more than looking for the right skill to use. Lots of their skills are situational and require lots of understanding of what it does and when to use it (same goes for mesmer).

Mesmer is good for mostly WvW and PvP, I don’t use mine much outside of PvP. Mesmers deal with clones and illusions, if you like seeing more of your character and confusing others this is the best profession for you. (Yes people get fooled by clones, I’d say about 90% of the time even with some bugs.) Enemy NPCs are not fooled by clones, they still attack you almost 100% of the time.

I think necro is the most friendliest profession since it provides so much survivability with it’s high health pool. You won’t be doing OVER 9000 damage but you’ll be able to tank multiple enemies, probably can handle 3-6 at a lower level and 5+ at level 80 no problem.

Didn’t mean to write a wall of text. TLDR= Necro is the easiest for newcomers
