Hey guys and girls!

I want to make another class, but I don’t know what to choose between Warrior and Engineer. I want to use them for PvP/WvW (zerg) and perhaps PvE (fractals/dungeons). Pro and cons for each class?

Warrior has a lot of potential for crowd control with his weapons and physical skills as well as means to support groups (banners, phalanx strength) along with means to mitigate conditions as well, but lacks maintenance in terms of overall heals (that’s why he has a bigger health pool than Guardian). For dungeons, with the right setup he’ll become a superior defiance bar breaker.

Engineer, on the other hand, carries a lot of utility, condition potential and mobility and can either hold a place or back up a raiding party – but condi mitigation is rather poor. On the offset, there are means to buff and heal that are more, but being medium armor class means you’ll have to stay on your toes. Scrapper grants a bit more forgiveness esp. if you have the full spec unlocked for sneak gyro.

Gist: warrior is front, engineer is support.

There other things to consider as well….

How are you at handling high maintenance rotations?
Do you need a low skill threshold?
Do you need a panic button?
Do you want in-line utility, or Spec’d utility?
In terms of diversity, you need ready access? or are you ok with build limitation?
Are you ok with Defense management?

And what are your existing classes, and your general opinion of them?

The Warrior has strong build options, but they are always exposed in some aspect (usually to heavy condi pressure). They do exceptionally well in groups which can cover their vulnerabilities, but can be torn down pretty easy if their opponent can find and exploit their weaknesses.

The Engineer has nearly unparalleled inline utility and versatility (which is a huge boon in WvW); but their high end performance is centered on combo sequences, and easily loses momentum if you mistime your skills. Fortunately Scrapper is a PvP centered Spec, with the added durability it offers being incredibly useful in all game modes.

Most of my time, I play as a guardian (DH). It was and still is my favorite profession since I start to play GW2, but I want to try something else too. I like that I can be a support, but also I can handle 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 1. Sometimes, I go and harass their home at the start of the match, sometimes I go for rotation. Depends, on the match mostly.

I also have a Ranger, Necro and a Mesmer. With the last 2, I don’t usually play frequently when it’s come to PvP. But every mode I go, I will use my guardian.

I think I am too used with my guardian and I don’t give a chance to any class. I did try Engi and Warrior few days ago, but I was still undecided. Then I thought about Rev that I never give a chance (also, thanks to Dreamy’s video. He contacted me.)

I do like challenge and I think with an Engineer I would have that challenge than with a Warrior. But, being used with my guardian, I act like one and I don’t play safe when I am a squishy. Plus, necros are ruining my life XD The fact is, I still need to learn him to be capable to fight a necro or 1 vs 1. if Engi is able to do that. With Warrior, I feel that I am focused too much + I don’t see a challenge, it’s too simple comparing to Engi. (combat stuff).

I would choose Engi based on my preference (having a challenge, acting like a support [I can offer them boons and stuff]) and about what you guys said, but then, I never tried a Rev in PvP. I had one for PvE (before they nerfed him), then I changed the server and deleted him. What is your opinion about Rev in PvP/PvE?

I am not a fan of Rev, largely because of the lack of customization with your 6-10 skills being grouped in sets. Most people use it to make an endrun to Herald (elite spec) which has pretty good support abilities with the Glint legend, and then switch out the other legend depending on what they are wanting (usually Shiro), but they rarely switch away from Glint.
