Hey, just joined the crew. I was wondering which classes are most in demand for parties (pvp and/or pve wise). I’ve been thinking of playing an Elementalist, Mesmer, or Thief, but mainly just want a char that can easily roll with a party and have fun be it casual or hardcore stuff. Thanks.

All classes pretty much are 100% useful for any content in game.
So really it’s all about playstyle preferences!

Try all classes and see which one fits your playstyle!

Ele, mesmer, thief are the best choices at the moment. Since there are tons of guardians and warriors. I would say Ele first and of course you’ll have to learn how to stack might

there are indeed too many warriors.. sometimes I will run Arah or CoE and see 4 other warriors in group (not that it’s terrible). All the classes you listed are useful, but there is a shortage of Eles in groups, especially since the patch that nerfed them. A skilled Ele is probably the most useful, but that number is even smaller now.. I see most of them still using FGS for fights.

Thanks for the replies! Now to decide which server to play. Not like there is a difference since they’re all “Very High”. Can you play cross server? Is it like the typical MMO where you make a char on one server and its stuck there for eternity (unless you pay a small arm and leg)?

TL; DR : To answer this, you’ll have to ask yourself a question :

Do I care about my server’s ranking in the WvW ?

If yes : pick a server with very high population => They are the ones that can “hold through the night”

If no : pick whatever server you like.

Long answer :
In PvE the server you are in does not matter (since there is only megaserver). You’ll be mixed with players from any server with priority to maps hosting your guild/group/server.

If you think you might practice wvw from time to time, then pick the servers in the “high” population.

Example : As a french player I have 5 servers to choose from : Vizu (very high), Jade Sea (very high), Augury Rock (High), Fort ranik (High) and Arborstone (medium).

Since I wanted a more close knit community without roleplayers in the /map chat and I do not main WvW, I picked Augury Rock. It is not too populated and the matches in WvW are still decent.

Anet introduced Megaservers for the open wold maps so essentially it’s all cross server for general roaming around, and for guilds now too. WvW is still server-only though. If you’re interested in that then choose carefully.
