While I’m not super concerned story-wise with which Order (Durmand Priory, OoW, Vigil) to go with, as I plan on making alt(s) in the future – is there anywhere I can go to find out, or does anyone know first-hand what the benefits are to choosing one over the others, if any?

Are there gear upgrades, stat bonuses, etc?

Yes, there are armor sets with different stats depending on the order. Wiki has information about them all! For example at the bottom of this page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Order_of_whispers

For the looks it is a bit harder to find information (so far found the Durmand Priory looks). But browsing around on the wiki will get you insight in the stats and browsing google images in the looks.

Each order has their own gear sets, what type of character are you, seeing as I’m a warrior I went with Vigil, priory is magical users, and whisphers is stealthy

can you join other orders after picking one?

i am gonna say no since you did made a pact with that particular order.

apparently it is possible to change, but its difficult to do.

Only difference is the story line I think. I am not sure whether you can purchase the armor sets from the respective vendors of their orders but I found the whispers headquarters in the bloodtide coast and can enter it as well as interact with the vendors, so I am thinking its possible.

Anyway I think the best looking heavy armor has gotta be the vigil followed by the priory, the whispers heavy armor set looks weird…
