-requires fast reflexes (may require the use of many skills in short period of time)

-may have many skills

-little or no micromanagement of pets, etc (I have pretty bad situational awareness)

-little or no “boon/condition skills” that you have to keep using every minute or so (because i always forget to use them)

-not support oriented (more-so strong dps, I plan on soloing more than anything, maybe a little dungeons and stuff later)

Thanks!!!

Elementalist
Warrior
Engineer

These might best fit what you are looking for.
But it might help to know a bit more.
Are you just starting out in GW2? Are you coming from other MMOs?
Which profession appeals most to you, from a play standpoint, and not mechanical?

Thanks for your advice.

Coming from WoW primarily. Several 90s and 100s already, I’m very much done with it lol. However, I did enjoy it while it lasted (of course).

Yea, I am pretty much just starting in GW2 although I have a few lvl 15s. Haven’t gotten deep yet.

From a play standpoint, I have always liked mages. I enjoy AOE stuff mostly. But for me, I like most to play a class (prof) that I can naturally excel with and reach its skill cap easier than other classes. In other words, I like mages usually but tend to suck with them haha

-high reflexes: Mesmer and thief. (contrary to the the other guy, I think ele, warr and engi do not require high reflex at all). But this really only matters a lot in PvP. In PvE, you don’t actually need good reflex for anything.

-have many skills: Ele and engi this time

-no micromanagement of pet: Only mesmer and ranger are kinda forced to use their clones/pet. Other classes can be played without pet.

-little or no boon/condition spam: Unfortunately both ele and engi who have a lot of skills are also more boon/condition use dependent. Especially ele, they reply on boons a lot.

-not support oriented: No class is pigeonholed into a support-only role. But group dungeon runs do require you to bring important support that your class can offer.

In my opinion:

-requires fast reflexes (may require the use of many skills in short period of time)
This would be Thief – they are more movement/action oriented than other professions.

-may have many skills
Elementalist or Engineer – They do not have a weapon swap (uses only one weapon) but have more abilities than other professions. Do note that if you do not like micromanagement/ability rotations, the playstyle of Elementalist/Engineer may turn you off.

-little or no micromanagement of pets, etc (I have pretty bad situational awareness)
Thief – No pets. You “can” summon help, but they are automated and disappear after short duration.

-little or no “boon/condition skills” that you have to keep using every minute or so (because i always forget to use them)
Thief

-not support oriented (more-so strong dps, I plan on soloing more than anything, maybe a little dungeons and stuff later)
Thief

It sounds like you may enjoy a bit of Thief or Elementalist. Give them both a try and see which one feels more natural to you. If you like mage-type gameplay with aoe, go Staff Elementalist. Even though most of my answers point towards Thief, I think you’ll transition into GW2 easier with Elementalist. Play what you enjoy, even if you think you may suck with it, continued playtime with that profession will generally yield improvements.

Gotcha. First, don’t think in terms of dps, tank, and healer. Those don’t exist in GW2. We have damage, control, and support. Every profession can do all of these, some better than others but overall it’s fairly balanced out that way.

As for mage types with aoe, try elementalist, or necro. Both have lots of aoe. But elementalist has a higher skill cap than necro. I personally love necro. But elementalist has much more play variety.

In the end, just try them all and see what works for you. Have fun with it. There really is no wrong profession or build, although some people like to think there is :P

If you have more questions let us know. Good luck!

I don’t want to make a new thread so I’ll ask also in her?. I am looking for a character for me. I have a long career in MMORPGs but in GW2 I just cannot find a spot for me. I dont like to have many characters i am a fan of having just one and keep inproving only it. In Knight Online i played as a debuffer/healer priest, in WAR it was ironbreaker, in Wow heal paladin, in GW1 i was playing as a mesmer and necro in gvg and as a elementalist in soloqueue. In Neverwinter i played as a Guardian Fighter. I am a support. I like to support others and i hate to be squishy because it is annoying for me if i die with 1 combo. As i was checking professios my chooice was obvious – Guardian but… as i am playing it now i feel like i was useless. it has 15k hp and i die usually as a first. I have also tryed warrior it was ok due to big tankiiness, necro as i rly liked it in GW1 and Engineer as i wanted to try to Stay at the distance and put conditions on. I played mayby 50 Games at all but still cannot find something for me. Could You guys help me and give som? tips or help in finding character for me that i will stick to and master it?

@ Booxos I think you may need to read up on GW2 combat.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combat
More specifically combat roles, since you’re not going to find a parallel in other games you’ve played.

Combat roles in GW2 are Damage, Support, and Control compared to other games like WAR (only game of those you mentioned I played extensively enough to comment on) where you have Damage, Heal, Tank.

Ok Thx for lecture as i know it shows me the gam? a bit better… its closer to League of Legends than the standard tank/healer/dps MMORPG. now i am stuck with Engineer and Warrior. But as i read tons of forums both players ar? complaining about those classes. Is it possible to make a good suppoort warrior with Shield and som? shouts? Or Engineer that willl bring som? support?

Keep in mind that players are going to complain about everything. Right now the biggest complaint is that engineers are too overpowered, and cheese to play.

It certainly is possible to play a shout/support warrior, or a support engineer. Nothing wrong with that. In the end though, have fun, if you are playing something because you feel that its the only way to play the game, and if you are doing anything else than you are wrong, then you have to ask yourself is it really worth it?

Seems to me that you’re into the support type in PvP/GvG. If that’s the case, I suggest you go with either elementalist/warrior and to a lesser extent guardian. D/D or staff cele elementalist is the best support class at the moment. They survive really well and provide a lot of boon and condition cleanse.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, but the forums are where people come to complain.

Actually if you were to build a support Warrior you’d take Warhorn over Shield with the trait Quick Breathing.
