I’m asking, because I’ve already have all proffesions and I love all of my characters, so when the new race will be introduced there is no way I am deleting any of my toons.

So what proffesion, in your opinion is worth doubling the most? Which one have completely opposite builds that are really valuable?

I know I look much in the future, but I thought that is an interesting subject of discussion and maybe I would like to create new character sooner as I am a complete altoholic

Mesmer. It’d be easy as heck to run Mesmer #1 as a pure GC Shatter-spec, then Mesmer #2 is Conditions or Support/Glamour

I see no reason to do this unless you just want to have a different racial or faction experience with the story. As far as builds go, it’s less than 4s to refund all your trait points at LVL 80, so you can change any character build at numerous places across the game. Whether you have a completely different character or not, you still have to plunk down gold to obtain multiple sets of equipment for different builds (tho, a new character does provide the additional storage to support this).

The only possible actual “advantage” that I am aware of is being an Asura in PvP simply because the model is visibly smaller (I’ve been told that nearly every sPvP and tPvP player is now Asura race….). Note that we are “told” that all the hit boxes are the same, so there is no actual advantage to the small size, just that it’s a bit harder to see and you can actually hide behind things easier. It is enough of an advantage, that there is serious talk about generalizing PvP character sizes (or even possibly models).

I see your point. And yes I want a different story, plus if it will be a cool race like Tengu I simply want to have one

Actually, I think that if you have the will to level two separate characters with the same proffesion, doing different activities that require/are easier with different builds is more comfortable when you just swap characters than when you change your build, skills and most of all equipement. But still it’s pretty demanding to fully level another toon, so I guess it’s not for everyone.

Not to burst your bubble, but I doubt GW2 will ever introduce new races or even new classes. ANet Devs have stated many times that one of GW1s major mistakes was introducing new classes in the expansions (but they planned on that up front, since the original game only had 5 classes). GW2 had 8 classes at release and balancing any new skills introduced by new weapon types (something they HAVE implied may happen), will be enough of a challenge.

I guess a new race would only introduce a few new skills, but I have certainly never seen any public mention of plans by the Devs for a new race to be released….they are reluctant to even discuss a possible expansion at this point.

New classes, I’d agree on. But I honestly believe they’ll add new races. There’s the Dominion of Winds SW of Lion’s and a squad of Tengu guarding it. That’s a pretty hefty nod, imo, to Tengu getting added in at some point. Past that, I’d argue that Largos are a possibility. Another thing that’d make races easier to add than classes would be: racial skills are deliberately kept lower-strength than class skills are. That makes it a little easier to slot a PC race in, without drastic unbalance.

To me that is asking the wrong question. I have two elementalist but that is not just because I like playing elementalist. The reason I have two is because I prefer different specs for open world and dungeons. The cost of retraiting is not an issue but it is inconvenient.

If you mean you farm a specific dungeon (CoF by any chance?), then you have a valid point. Otherwise, you have to travel to the other dungeons, so you either spend that much silver to travel, or you pass though several towns on the way and your statement doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I have two Necromancers just because I like Necros. They may be the class least worthy of two slots, but oh well (granted one is naked)!

Also I’d put my money on Kodan being playable before Largos and maybe even Tengu. I can’t imagine the kind of work that the art team will need to do to put armor skins on Largos. Kodan however can most likely use the Norn model to a drastic extent.

Largos are completely out of my taste, but Kodan would be great But to be honest – if I could choose – have new races or not have them at all I would take second option. I like the game how it is and I would feel comfortable knowing that no new races will be introduced. No risk of ruining the game is a great advantage. But considering new trend of hating gw anet might want to make a huge spin to get more interest… We will see.

But that’s the kind of answer I was expecting

I’m hoping when they add a new race, they also add a new profession, so I don’t have to make this decision. :P

Honestly, the point of a duplicate profession is almost always convenience. A 2nd would let you run 2 different specs without having to regear, retrait, reskill. Also, you can park a character in 1 spot for something done often. A COF1 farm spec could be one, and a WvW spec could be another.

Well i have 3 mesmers…

My sylvari which ive had since launch, i use her for pretty much everything.

My asura, i really like the animations but after a while ts just not enough to keep my attention.

My human, which is a pvp only character. I use her dor condition builds, and try to keep the same runes so its easier to switch build. I dont think condition is viable for tourney, so i keep them seperated from my normal builds.

A new race? When O.o?
