Which set of stats should I choose?
as far as power damage builds, the general rule of thumb is Power > Precision > Ferocity. From that, if you wanted to spec into a survival attribute like vitality or toughness, you’d be better off shorting yourself on ferocity. I think I’ve seen the table you’re referring to and people mentioned that the only time adding more precision would be beneficial is if you had an insane amount of power (like an unobtainable amount i think).
Of course it also depends on what sort of build you have going on. A reflect build usually calls for higher precision. Also, if you have any sigils or traits revolving around critical hits that you want to make a build around, precision might be more beneficial. Last build I messed around on had a trait that heals for 15% of my crit damage so I focused more on precision until I was able to get 90%-100% crit chance and heal every time I attacked pretty much.
First of all give us some context. PvE, PvP, WvW zerg, roaming, profession, build?
I was trying to avoid specifics because I didn’t want people to just rag on the build. But here it goes:
I’ts a hybrid trap ranger. Been playing it in PvP and like it and do well. So I’m trying to port it over to WvW – mostly roaming but some group play. And I also may use it in general PvE for fun with my guild.
Its SB – Sword and sometimes I use Torch and sometimes Dagger. I’ve got the build worked out and need to buy a dagger. Its a condi dagger but when I was build crafting I was surprised that my two dagger choices gave such a big difference in P, V, Pr.
My choices are a Rabid (CdPrT) or Carrion (CdPV) dagger. My initial thought was Rabid but I don’t really need the Toughness. But the Carrion gives 4% less Crit Chance and that sounds big. So I was wondering if the Power increase from 1754 to 1839 on the Carrion dagger was enough to make up for the loss of 4% Crit Chance. (Plus more Vitality on Carrion which I like).
focus on power and ferocity for your dagger, condi and power for your torch.
prec is nice, but it is one of the only stats not required to be in your armor / weapons due to the Fury boon. the +20% you get from this is equal to 2 – 4 pieces of prec main equipment. for example, my ele has a 50% crit chance but no prec armor or trinkets whatsoever. just in the weapons / utility noms.
and traps sword / x / sb rangers are awesome. you want your condi to be at least 700 for good burning damage.
I’d go with more vitality and less prec in your stats and rely on boons to make up the difference. anything over 50% is very effective.

view this page and then make your decision on how far up the tree you want to go based on your abilities. If you are not feeling the move up, exchange one or more pieces for the next higher level prefix. Use this until you find the highest level you are comfortable playing with. Use exotic gear until you find your sweet spot, then you will know before you get into crafting Ascended.
