I just started a new character yesterday,
then after getting a bunch of basic quality gears( white color),
i find out that some people are paying high prices for these low level gear in TP that i used to salvage it without thinking in few month ago.

So it really made me curious, why people are buying this kind of things with such a high prices?

It will be thankful if someone can satisfy my curious.

People salvage whites for a number of reasons. Sometimes to get mats, but this month, because you have to salvage 500 items to get your monthly achievements, a lot of people are just bulk buying whites to get it out of the way.

I don’t get it either. I get plenty of whites while playing, certainly enough to get the monthly, but that’s the reason whites are more expensive this month.

nothing to do with 500 salvage. low range gear is being bought and resold for higher price for a while now.
why it works? because alts, and because players usually just salvage or dump those low level items to vendor. and because high level players rerolling alts can afford paying that ‘sell order’ price, without waiting for buy orders.

Ummm, white prices have gone up since the month started. So some people are buying them for the reason I said. And since we’re talking whites, I don’t know a ton of people that buy whites for alts. I also know people personally who bought whites just to finish their monthly.

I can’t imagine why you think it has nothing to do with it.

you mean to say players bought lowest level whites, which are more expensive then slightly higher level blues(which are in the marker at +1c vendor price) to complete their monthly achievement? i find that highly unlikely, unless they don’t know how to use sort by price feature.

is that real? cos i do tat achievement with only buying the salvage kit.
and i get tons of leather from centaurs which can easily get from doing kessex hill or harathi hinterland chain event.
if it is real then i have to say ppl are far more richer then i thought
cos i certainly will not pay over 1 silver for those low level white to just salvage it.

i would say its most likely a mix of buying for salvage or buying for skins.

i see no reason why buying to resell or buying to use would come in, thier whites, blues are so easy to get even at low levels that purposfully buying and using whites is just missing out on actual stats

The higher costs are mosty due to salvaging for either the low level mats or to make the monthly goal. But in the end it is all about making money.

Especially for the cloth armors, lots of level 80s get those to salvage for mats for tailor. There’s no way to get cloth except by salvaging, and level 80s get drops for their level regardless of the zone now. I think the same thing applies for leather also.

I have a theory that some people buy whites/blues to turn into higher tiered items, and eventually get exotics. Just speculation though…so take it with a grain of salt.

That’s an extremely inefficient and probably cost-ineffecicent way of doing that.

Technically, yes. On the other hand, as a level 80 who’s stuck at lvl 150 tailor, relying on bag and salvage drops is much, much slower than having the level-appropriate armor and weapon drops.

I think its a simple question of players taking advantage to try and make money.

Lower level items are always somewhat in demand due to new alts and new players, and in the case of new players they won’t really know what items typically go for. And due to the very low sell cost of low level gear and the fact that many players sell stuff like blues at 1c above sell price, its very easy for players with even a bit of money to “fix” the prices on low level gear. Put in a buy order for a hundred items with a handful of silver, then turn around and sell them all back for 1s a pop. Then use the profit to place higher buy orders, and raise your selling price. Not that any one person is causing this, I think its a large number of people who all have the same idea.

I’ve seen many low level items with pending buy orders for hundreds of units at or around 50-60c or more (some even as high as 1s buy orders, where sell price are at 2s). Salvaging them for low level mats wouldn’t be worth the price, it’d be cheaper to just buy the mats themselves for that if getting past 100 tailoring was the goal.

And if its just for salvages, there are cheaper items to buy than those as well. Level 20 items are still going for sell price +1, and the like.

This seems to be almost entirely centered around 1-15 blue and white gear. Past that point prices seem to even back out to the usual sell price +1 for blues.

gold sellers, most likely…like when you see a lvl 10 white headpiece going for 15 silver….yeah….gold sellers (aka the illegal gold farmers/sellers)

I bought around 300’ish low level items to salvage for my monthly. I was only paying 30-50c for them thou…

When its all worked through you can sometimes make money doing it or lose very little.

Use the free (karma) salvage kits.

Where does one acquire a karma salvage kit and it is the equivalent of the Master’s Salvage Kit?
