I really would like to be able to solo my personal story more but in some cases after dying several times, I end up asking for help. I really hate to ask other folks help me do a small instance for my story.

Currently I have the last personal story “Romke’s Final Voyage” ::SPOILER:: where I have to find a map to locate the source of Orr.

I can’t solo this one. No one wants to help either. I have asked a few folks and no one wants to do this. Most of them have done it before and refuse to repeat it for any reason.

First, make sure your GEAR is as good as you can afford. That helps. After you hit level 80 you should be thinking about your final, main set of EXOTIC armor and weapons. Also check online resources for hints and tips for your specific storyline. You’d be surprised how much is even on VIDEO at YouTube. And keep asking for help in Map Chat. Eventually someone will join you. Even then, some storylines are harder than others, and some professions may be more suited than others. ( I have noticed in some instances that the bad guys relentlessly charge the player, ignoring the NPCs. That can make it difficult for the non-melee squishy types if they have to continually fight on the run.)

Post your server. Maybe someone here is in your world and will offer to help.

You don’t have friends or guildies to help out? The issue with personal story is the reward is too small (even for completing the entire story!) so it’s not interesting for PuGs.

I do remember that personal story quest – I completed it on my Ranger at level 80 with rare magic find armor (so you don’t need exotic but Masterwork at least would definitely help). If you want to try to solo it, you’ll want to build your character to fight a prolonged battle (prioritize healing and toughness over damage). This doesn’t necessarily mean Cleric armor – just have some way to stay alive while your self-heal is recharging so you can survive the risen waves.
If your character build relies on killing the enemy before you succumb to all the damage (e.g. a Berserker Warrior’s build), then you’ll have a problem.

Post your server. Maybe someone here is in your world and will offer to help.

Some people have their own methods of helping players.
In case you do Not realize, You can go help people in game if possible by simply (Guesting) on their server or vise-versa.

Actually, I really am not a very good player. I am very new to this type of gaming because my son got me involved. Hence the issue with trying to learn stuff.

But Dreamy was very helpful. I just spent a little time guesting w/Dreamy and was shown a lot of useful tips. Even might be able to learn to play without just using a mouse for movement.

LOL… :/

But plan to contact my guild leader this week and see about getting help for my story line. I am in a very good guild, but I just hate to ask for help. Most everyone else has been gaming for a long time…much longer than I have and are more effective at it.

I have a lot to learn yet…this old lady is not quite decrepit but a bit slow that’s all.

BTW, my guild is called Old Timers Guild on Yak’s Bend. We have a lot of fun for a bunch of ole farts…hehehe.

I thank you very much for your vote of confidence. I shall try it tomorrow and see how I do. Besides, I can always do it over if I fail, right?

BTW I just outfitted my Mesmer in Exotic armor and weapons. Went with Chest/legs Rampager and the rest were Carrion. But I am actually rethinking some of my setup. I am trying out this build here: (am thinking of changing that out tho)

You NEED the “Deceptive Evasion” trait from the dueling trait line. It makes playing a mesmer like 30x easier. The extra clones on dodge give you a massive increase in survivability and DPS.

Oh my word….this “Deceptive Evasion” is amazing. I did not know about it before, but am very glad kazi mentioned it. I redid my traits to include this and tried it out on my run earlier this evening while harvesting in Frostgorge.

I have done that one alone too. Mind you, it took a couple of deaths on the beach. This was my engineer.
The one I cannot manage on my own is this one’s equivalent in the Temple of Grenth. Yet it is very easy with a friend.

Hmm the wiki implies that the Risen in this step got buffed in February. A character with AoE heals will probably have an easier time of soloing this since they could probably keep the crew alive at the beach which is the most problematic bit.

No one wants to help because they are completely doable solo. Just keep practicing with your character. Gear him up from the trading post if you need to.

No one wants to help because they are completely doable solo. Just keep practicing with your character. Gear him up from the trading post if you need to.

I know you are correct but I’ve found some guildies who did not know I had not completed this portion of the mission and have offered their help. As I mentioned, I really hate to ask for help but in this case I have to.

One more step to go….got the map portion done now on to the Artesian Waters for the last step before the Arah dungeon. I tell you, Trahearne certainly could be a better hero companion. I kept having to rez him during my fights and got pretty tired of it. The only place I did not have to rez him was in the water killing the undead around the map casket.

I do wish Anet would make these NPC heros much tougher than they are. It is pointless to have them along to “help” when they don’t help at all …just die.

Would rather run through all this stuff with guild mates and not worry about Trahearne.

What a disappointment! I completed the final personal story quest “The Source of Orr” where I traveled to the Artesian Waters. The interaction leading into the vault where you are confronted by the Eye was, meh, not memorable and way too easy.

But, the actual fight with the Eye was ridiculously easy. Way too easy. I was prepared for a long, challenging fight and had brought along a guild mate who had done it before. We had discussed tactics and decided on a plan of action, only to be totally disappointed in what we experienced.

I don’t like impossible fights solo or in groups, but impossibly easy is worse in my opinion and this fell into that category. What changed? I have no idea but we managed to defeat him so quickly that only two of his fights actually triggered. We never once broke a sweat over this.

Apparently, this is a case of going from the sublime to the ridiculous in two easy steps. It seemed this last fight was just a prelude to a cinematic to end our personal line and lead us to the dungeon.

Not a challenge any longer judging by what I witnessed in person versus what I actually saw via other folks’ videos of this fight.

I believe it’s due to two things-

-The instance is meant for one person to do. Therefore, it would logically follow that two people would be able to kill the Eye in half the time, with significantly less trouble. I would also wager that your friend is geared in full exotics, has a lot of experience playing, and is possibly a high-damaging class, warrior in particular. Those little details will make a big difference, as I highly doubt story quests were designed with full-exotic characters in mind.

Even if the quest does scale, the presence of one extra person makes any content much, much easier. I say this as someone who has both soloed and duoed AC story- even though I was on a non-80 for the duo, the duo was far easier than the solo.

-People whined about it being hard and taking too long. So Anet made it easier.

Actually, my guild mate had done this before with another guild mate and it was scaled to account for two folks doing the fight then. He also was not wearing exotics in this one with me. He actually had not had time to even make rares so he was really only wearing green armor.

Being a Ranger I was doing the range attack while he was tanking as a D/D elementalist. The last time he did this with a guild mate they had a difficult time of it and they were better geared.

I helped him with his portion of “Find the Map” story and it scaled to double what I experienced since I actually ended up soloing mine. So I do know that map portion did scale with two players.

Well, we did the Arah mid afternoon yesterday and found it was a bit buggy on the air ships portion of the fight. I went into the dungeon with exotics and did not do that badly considering I am not the best dungeon player. Died a couple of times near the end just before the air ship portion but otherwise, those fights were not that difficult either. I died due the red circles I could not see and the poison that I rolled into when I dodged.

Ah well, it is done and I have the achievement now.

Personal story difficulty has been all over the place, both in different episodes and in the same episode at different times. People complain on forums and fansites. I wouldn’t be surprised if some file bug reports. I know people were complaining about story missions that involved Krait after the Krait were buffed. Anyway, if enough complain, stuff gets nerfed.

The same thing happened with Ascalonian Catacombs Story Mode. At launch it was quite difficult for a first dungeon, and now it is quite easy.

The fight did used to be tougher. The eye’s HP was reduced in the October patch. Now it’s possible to burn it down fairly quickly. It also feels like the damage from the eye beam attack got reduced but that was not mentioned in the patch notes.

I am surprised they didn’t accidentally buff the eye while making risen “more interesting”.

Flatterer!! I “try” to do well in anything but not always succeed. However, what’s funny is, when I finally logged on to complete my map portion of the quest, I missed my guild mate by a few moments because I was late logging into the game…that is why I ended up soloing that particular portion of the personal story.

I did watch several videos to get a feel for the fights and apparently what I saw were older versions of what I actually experienced. But due to Anet changing these fights I need not have worried about soloing them.

DreamyAbaddon.3265 has a few videos of fights in WvWvW/pvp that are amazing to watch. Once I found out he uses a game controller, I realized how mobile he really was compared to my mouse movement. I am determined to learn to be as fluid a mover in game play now that I found that out.

I don’t know anything about game controllers but have been playing around with mouse + wasd movements to be able to strafe properly.

Currently I am using a new mesmer build that is so much fun in pve. I constantly am able to create clones on dodges and such. Love it.

BTW I really do not pvp. Not particularly interested in that aspect of the game…but that said, I do like the WvWvW in this game. It is so much fun to run with a bunch guildies to take supply camps, towers and such that I do this at least twice a week now.

Have decided to try a new Ranger Beast Master build too. So I should see some more action there too.

… but I digress from title. Have 4 other characters’ personal stories to complete yet and have not decided which direction to take on them. Have done the Whispers so may try the other two. I really like the Whispers story tho.

Heh depends on when you were doing that step. The abomination before the door opens used to be pretty deadly for just about everyone. They nerfed it a bit at some point but recently they also gave abominations the charge attack. Not sure if they remembered to exempt that one. The charge attack can be difficult to dodge especially in the tiny room. The charge attack is pretty much impossible to dodge with 25 stacks of frenzy which the NPCs tend to provide for the abomination.

While I acknowledge this, the OP made this thread about 6 days ago, so I was mainly speaking within relevance to the current settings of the mission. But I don’t doubt you. I did another option my first time through, though I don’t remember which.
