Q:
Why do hackers delete toons?
From my understanding, yea. It’s primarily to troll the victim, deleting chars is not exactly a hard or time intensive process.
P.S. Also if the hacker has a beef with the company and it’s a subscription based game deleting all the toon has a better chance of the player throwing in the towel and canceling their sub than just losing all their gear. Which hurts the company.
From what I know, as long as 5-7 days have not passed, it’s rather easy for the one hosting the servers to reclaim all the data, as long as you’ve put in the info that you’ve been hacked and what time you realized it, along with what time you last logged out. They can narrow down the field, find and undo the deletion, and refund any and all items that were sold or gotten rid of during that time frame.

WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I think a lot of hackers also want to use accounts for botting (why buy an account to do something you know is going to get banned when you can steal one for free?) and it’s harder for anyone to report them if they delete all the characters with recognizable names and replace them with ones called Ajfhhhajderjgrt or something.

If you could count the letters it’d be easy because you can only put capitals at the start of a word, so it’d have to start with an I and then be all L’s.
