Because your forum login is the same as your game login, and it would not be a good idea to stick it in a cookie where it’s easily compromised?

Yes, quite.
Star Wars ToR did it and worked fine. Never had issues with stuff being compromised.
As a Chrome user I don’t need to enter my details each time I visit the site, I just have a favourite pointing to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum.
Edit: Oops, just occurred to me I never close my browser, I have a bunch of tabs I always leave open and I never turn my PC off. I just closed the browser and it did require me to login again, so, it’s not possible to save the login info.
