This is a public service announcement for all Rangers and people who want to make a Ranger. A few days ago Anet terminated my account for playing Ranger and profiled me as a botter since botters like to play Rangers. After admitting they were wrong they gave me my account back. Here’s the real kicker, after asking for a reimbursement of laurels since i have never missed a daily, they basically told me it was my fault for playing ranger.
“Hello,
After reviewing the issue, it appears that your account was blocked in error. Your account has been released and you should be able to log in to Guild Wars 2 once again. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."
…
“Though we are sincerely sorry for the interruption caused by this investigation, we feel this persistence is necessary for the protection of our legitimate players, their accounts and the community as a whole. We will not able to provide compensation for any time or in-game progress that may have been missed during our review.”
Lesson of the day: Your account does not mean anything to arena net, they will terminate it for whatever reason they feel like and refuse to give you any compensation.
How to avoid this: Don’t bother playing Ranger.

You should write: don’t play shortbow ranger with bear when farming in the same place for several hours, and for whole time don’t move your character when shoting, don’t change a pet and weapon, don’t evade or do any movement if mobs start attacking you. Ignore events and players in your area. And by no means answer other players if they ask you sth.
My guess you played like a bot, got raported by other players and got banned. And why do you think they should give you laurels?
1) I Don’t use Bears
2) I Don’t use shortbow
3) Sort of hard to farm verteran karkas and normal karkas by standing still, you have be moving non stop or your going to get spat to death.
4) I shouldn’t have to talk to every person while farming, not my job to be your friend or buddy
5) Please read the forums more often, there are hundreds of reports of false bans, most of those revolve around rangers.
6) Laurels should be refunded to me since I have a 100% completion track record of dailies. I should be up to 26 laurels today not 23. But anets screw up and their slow response time made it impossible to play the game for 3 days even though they admitted they screwed up.
7) I usually have map chat off, I dont give 2 fks about who your screwing or your dad hit last night nor do i care about your high school drama. Thats most of the crap i see in map chat.
As much as it sucks that you were mistakenly banned, I don’t agree that you should be given your laurels, and they have no obligation to do so.
Although my opinion doesn’t really matter
You probably kitten someone off (with the way you’re posting I wouldn’t be surprised) and they got their guild to mass report you which is basically an auto-ban.

If that’s the case then Anet really needs to fire their response team/coders lol…

I had a friend get auto-banned for “gold selling” (he was just borrowing some cash from a guildy) and he got unbanned in the same night. Sucks to be you I guess.
Please don’t scare people away from this class. There are already few enough rangers out there. I don’t like being one of the few that play and enjoy the ranger as their main.
That being said, don’t act like a bot and you should be fine. I run both a bear and use a shortbow, so that in and of itself is not the source.
while i was playing my ranger and leveling, i wandered into frostgorge a few levels early, to see if i could get an XP boost to get to 80 one weekend. a guardian started following me for maybe 15 minutes. i thought he wanted to party up after the 15 minutes, so i attempted to invite them to join me. luckily, i tried to invite, because they mentioned in chat that they were about to flag me as a bot, and wandered off without apology.
i was wearing T2 Norn armor, with an Owl as my pet at the time. admittedly, i did have a shortbow, and was looking for hearts to do, and stuff to mine. while i guess i got lucky, i no longer play my ranger unless absolutely necessary, and make every attempt to not leave Lion’s Arch when logged on with it. some times i do leave, but only if i have more than 2 guild people at my side.
next time, i won’t be so lucky. thanks to that player, i am too scared to play my ranger, and have only taken it to CoF maybe 3 times in the past 4 months. i have a few alts anyways, but if i happen to catch someone on a bad day, i could lose my ele, my guardian, and 80% of my legendary materials and gifts.
If you’re not actually botting they’ll unban you within a few days, so you won’t lose anything but access
You really, honestly expect them to compensate you for what you could have earned? Compensating based on potential gain just doesn’t happen. There’s no way to quantify it (saying “well I’ve never missed it before” doesn’t mean with 100% certainty you wouldn’t have missed it) and its a slipperly slope to start compensating people based on what they “could” get.
It sucks that you were banned falsely, but using something like them not giving you what you might have gotten as a reason to claim they don’t care is bad.
Serves you right for playing a ranger, kitten tree hugger!!! Seriously though, wrongful bans need to have some sort of compensation period.
100-200 gem for every day Arena Net used to resolve the issue tbh.
Find it completly unreasonable to use excuses like the one that was used in this case, When guilty until proven innocent becomes the standard we are in trouble.

yes but then we would have ppl abusing that mechanic if they were to compensate for the mishap
botters would report themselves then claim to be a normal player get unbanned then claim some gems for 0 work to sell on..
nice in theory.. but
abusing it how? If the same player gets red flagged repeatedly there is obviously a bigger issue.
Also for botters reporting themselves, really? obviously your account would need to be frozen before compensation starts rolling.. and why should Anet freeze it before they actually got comfirmation hes a bot? and when its confirmed.. well he could claim he was normal until he turned blue.
Also you would have to be pretty dense to risk a 40$ account to get 2$ worth of ingame currency

How about they tack on some free game time to your account?
So you were farming or doing some form of repetitive task, and got mistakenly banned as a “bot”. And that has everything to do with using a ranger…? Unless they explicitly stated they’re profiling rangers, this is a pointless thread since it’s just stating an assumption as fact. What’s next? Oh, I got banned for farming on my warrior, so they must now be profiling warriors. So don’t play them!
Yes, it sucks that you got banned, but it happens. Be glad they got it right the second time around and unbanned you.
I got banned last week after being accused of botting. I run a human warrior as my main and was farming for 30 karka shells in southsun (1st time farming for them) and I was chatting intermittently. I was there about 1 hr since I had a magic find boost and was banned for that. I beleive they do owe you something after you bought the game andsupport the game in the gem shop and being falsely banned for almost a week then only say I guess we were wrong, oh well.
I still log in to do dailies but I have lost that passion for the game, mostly because Tera went free to play around the same time and I decided to check it out and have been hooked with that game, only grudgingly logging in to dailies in case I get back into guild wars later on, but have a feeling I might even stop doing that pretty soon.
Giving you your laurels for their mistake seems like the least they could do, but Anet really doesn’t care if it’s just one player saying it especially when everyone else white knights for the mods/devs.
There is 2 sides to every story. What were you doing that made people think you were botting? I’d guess that you might have found some place that let your pet farm for you while you were away.
Not technically botting…..an exploit maybe, but that depends on ANet. You ever play Eq2? Pretty common practice there.
Unfortunately, peeps passing by can mistake it for botting.
(edited by Raf.1078)
If ANet actually banned you purely on heresay from other players, then that is complete BS and they owe you but like others said, there is 2 sides to every story. I mean hell if that’s the case, people could just run around reporting anyone as a bot and next thing you know, half the population of the game is gone….
And this is kinda why i don’t really like F2P or B2P since companies that run this system can afford to ban willynilly since they got your cash already upfront so there is really no need to keep retention of you unless of course you are a big microtransaction store purchaser.

Hmm I’ve been playing a shortbow/bear pet ranger since I started (4 80’s ago) and have yet to be accused of botting and I even run around harvesting heh.
I have a friend who was unjustly banned by ArenaNet who then refused to unban him. He took his complaint to NcSoft and later that day had his account back and a 2000 gem compensation for his troubles. Maybe it’s time for you to take your complaints up the chain of command.
Anet have repeatedly stated that they don’t ban people just on hearsay from players, but always look into the case themselves (…or whatever team they have looking into botting issues).
If you want someone to blame, blame the stupid players still buying gold from goldsellers, thus providing an incentive for goldsellers to hack accounts and run bots.
Also, reimbursing you for something you might have missed during the time you were unable to play…just doesn’t work, really, from an economical standpoint.
On a sidenote: I also have a shortbow ranger who’s frequently running around with a bear-pet, and I never ever got banned. Admittedly, I usually use my necro for farming, on the rare occasions that I do spend my time farming.
I see nothing in what they said that made it seem like you being a ranger was why you got banned.
You should not be reimbursed for what could of been, otherwise: “I was banned while in the middle of a dragon fight and unbanned 2 hours later but missed the chest. I demand the Dusk I would of got from that chest”
Bots use primarily ranger short bow with bear? huh. describes me a little too well :P (except I switch weapons frequently to long bow, but they are both Mystic bows so they’d look the same to unobservant bot spotters)
Lesson of the day: Your account does not mean anything to arena net, they will terminate it for whatever reason they feel like and refuse to give you any compensation.
Actually, if you’d read the ToS you signed up to when you started playing you’d already have known that. This isn’t news.
Anet have repeatedly stated that they don’t ban people just on hearsay from players, but always look into the case themselves (…or whatever team they have looking into botting issues).
Then whoever their ‘first line’ is in the ban department reviewing these accounts need to be retrained or fired and new people hired who can do their jobs.
Just in this thread there are 3 players who’s accounts were found to be unjustly banned for botting so something is not right in the first step of the process. Especially when forum posters make up a small percentage of the player base.
How many other people has this happened to?
I play a SB ranger exclusively. I don’t have any alts I play. I have an ele, but only for tailoring/jeweling. Sometimes I take her out into Charr starter zone to hunt for chili peppers but I don’t play that char.
I have been on a quest for 2 weeks, starting my 3rd week of looking for powerful blood because I want to make my own exotic bow.
I’m going to be very upset if my quest for blood to make my insignia for my bow gets me banned as a botter.
Not really to ticked off over the loss of laurels as I am to the lack of any compensation aside from a “we screwed up, accounts unbanned give us more money”
If you go through the 3day account ban or older thread and read through it, you will find out a ton of those accounts are Rangers.
For those who insist i still use a bear please read the thread before reading the topic sentence and hitting reply.
For the notion of “fighting dragon and demanding a dusk” that is not on the same comparison. 100% Completion on dailies every day vs Broken Event that does not always spawn every 4 hours. Also, it is impossible to farm all 3 dragons every 4 hours every single day. Medically, realistically, and statistically speaking vs a daily event 100% completion which is statistically, realistically and medically possible to do.
Seriously this is what i was doing exactly:
Farming younger and veteran Karkas in an area with no one in it (think it was about 8-9pm us central time) if there was anyone there i didnt see them or see any chat over head. Was farming for powerful blood and vicious claws for my Gift of Might. I was using: Long Bow, White Raven, Black Raven, 3 signets and Entangle. Was farming them in groups of 1-2. walked over to a cliff on the farm left side of the map near Lions point and said /sit. So i could go grab a quick drink and a snack with out getting kitten Then BAM banned.
Was talking in guild chat too, so the whole concept of ‘anti social doesnt talk to anyone’ blah blah doesnt work.
If you’re going to bash saying “compensation should not be applied for any reason just or unjust ban” try putting your account into consideration, what if this was during an event weekend? this ban lasted friday – Monday morning. I would have missed it and anets response would have been "sucked to be you "
There is a major flaw in the system for the way accounts are banned and the way unjust bans are handled and it needs to be reviewed and fixed.
1. Noone says TS isn’t just botter who got away and wants to clean his name up for future use.
2. Anet is one of few companies who really DOES something about bots in their game, and there is no other way to do it. Harsh times, harsh measures. Prove me wrong, I dare you.
3. I’m totally not surprised that TS got banned (even if just set up by several people).
