Before megaservers were introduced I did the Taidha Covington event on Desolation about 3 or 4 times and it was always a very straight forward fight – boss appears, you hit her until she dies, you get loot.

Since the megaservers were introduced I’ve seen the event running twice and both times when the boss gets down to about 5% health people start yelling at everyone to stop attacking her, and then yelling abuse at anyone who doesn’t. But no one’s ever explained why.

Going by the fact that shortly after the end of the fight someone will ping a waypoint on a distant map and then almost everyone disappears I assume these people are the world boss train, which narrows down the possible explanations to something that stop people getting loot and something which affects the timing of the event.

But I got both the big chest and the pop-up chest both times, even though I missed the start of the fight, so I assume getting loot isn’t the problem and the wiki simply says that if she’s not killed in 10 minutes the entire meta event chain restarts, which I assume would be more of a problem for the world boss train.

(And yes this is definitely the living Admiral Taidha Covington, not the Risen Covington Captain from the event that follows.)

Can anyone explain why some groups/servers don’t want to actually kill her?

Well everytime I have done it, when enough people keep attacking, she bugs out because she goes into her death dialogue but then she drops to 0 hp, the game heals her and she starts over again. So by attacking you’re keeping her in a loop.

Atleast that’s what we came to conclusion on, I was there when it first started happening. Just a long few minutes of attacking and then we decided to try not attacking, and it worked.
