Will GW2 ever cater low-mid end PCs?
Well in a few years what’s currently a high-end PC will be mid/low end. So unless they increase the system requirements over time yes they will.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
yes, in a few years.
you can get a pc that runs this game for about 500 which is considered “low end” I run on all minimum settings and am having a great time.
btw if anyone wants to donate a video card, please do!
My older system is 5yr old Q6600 with a slightly newer Nvidia GTX460. It runs GW2 well enough. Only sticking point is WvW zerg’s or Dragon events. Which is completely understandable.
Now, my new system chews up GW2 on High like it’s water. Thus, I’d say on this issue they’re actually doing a pretty good job of making the game system friendly.
I used to use my mom’s laptop on GW2 since beta.
The build i had was:
Intel i3 CPU
HD3000 Intel GPU
4GB Ram
That’s pretty low end right there. Was fine on low settings. =)
But I do recommend upgrading your PC if you are using a Desktop.
My new Desktop build is:
Intel i7 3770k CPU
GTX670 GPU
RAM 8GB
And im running the game on Ultra Settings. =)
The game is not very demanding on computers, dependant on your settings. I run fine on a six year old desktop and six year old laptop on autodetect
my laptop has a radeon hd 4500 512mb 6gb ram 2.3 dual core and i run on high with 25 fps only thing i have disabled is shadows and reflections in pvp i play on lower than that havent tried wvwvw
I built a mid-range desktop to play this game and play it on the highest settings with 50-60fps (I’m sure WvWvW would make me turn them down, but I haven’t tried that yet).
It cost me about $500. I don’t really think that is a high price compared to the cost of ones that are “high end”.

Exact same setup on my travel netbook (Win7). Can play the game on Lowest Performance settings just fine, around 25 fps +/- 10.
And as of this recent patch, can fight in 80-person WvW zergs with no lag or skill lag. Brilliant.
My wife plays on her laptop from 2010. When shes on PC it is a Dell dual core, 32 bit, 3gb machine with a low end graphics card that cost around $60. It is from 2005. She plays the game fine on both machines. I’m the only person in the house with a gaming computer.

I am on a five year old dual core with an 8800GT and 4gigs of ram …and it runs perfectly fine with the appropriate settings(no shadows, everything else medium)
Was a bit scared of what WvW would be like without culling.. pleasantly surprised not to notice any drops in framerate or responsiveness.

Once Arenanet said that if you can play gw1 on high you could pobably play gw2.
That quickly changed though…
I hope not. I like having a cool game for my cool computer.
