Hey, I have friends on a server that i don’t know the name of, and have no way of reaching them. All i have been reading about i it costing 1,800 gems to “transfer” your characters to another world. But is it possible for me to just play GW2 and then when i find out what world my friends are on, i can go on that world but with new characters and no need to “transfer” them?

World Transfers are free for the time-being.

Yes, there’s the “guest” system where you can temporarily play on a different server. I think the only restriction is that you can’t take part in WvW on behalf of the server you’re visiting.

Also, I believe the guest feature is not currently enabled. However, free world transfers (as noted) are.

Ok, that’s good to know, would u have an idea of how long the free transfers will be going for?

I think it was mentioned that it will be free for the “fist few weeks” after launch. I don’t have any better date than that though. And I can’t find where I read it, either.

I think the idea was to leave it free while server populations stabilize, so a few weeks sounds about right. But that’s just a guess.

They will announce it a few days or even a few weeks before free-transfers are stopped. So just keep checking the official GW2 website, Twitter, forums, and FB page.

Secondly, “home server” setting is account-based. All your characters will always be on the same “home server”.

Your best option is to take advantage of the free world transfer, however, I don’t suggest doing that – because once they announce they’re stopping it on some date, many people will more likely switch back to their original choice. And if that server happens to be your choice as well – who knows what will happen, probably your transfer will not be accepted (a possibility if the server gets full).

So the safest way is to, well, wait for the guesting feature.
