I’ve recently got rid of my old windows comp ankitten ow working only from my Mac, and was wondering if it’s worth getting back into this game (have a 80 mesmer) and buy HoT while its on sale. Do you feel like €22 equals the amount of content HoT gives, and is it possible to catch up, and does it really feel like you get stronger or better at something? Is the horizontal progression real?
Please let me know

P.s. How is the player base? bigger? smaller? since the F2P release

How much work did you do in the core game? Do you have map completion? €22 is a sale price but probably worth what content you get out of it, it really depends on how often you play, what you enjoy in game.

As for catching up…. a week, again dependant on what you want. Raids have been cleared in pure exotics to show that it is still the highest basic armor set you want, ascended has been always stated as prestige armor. If you have an 80 character with exotics and map completion then you would have enough hero points to finish your characters specialization by spending a few hours on one or two of the 4 maps included. Take a day for the story and put all your mastery experience into points specifically used in raids and boom!; you are raid ready in under a week.

If you enjoy only playing pvp/wvw then nothing much has changed there and HoT makes little difference to those modes so I wouldnt say worth it for those.

I did some WvW roaming but not that much. Used to do world boss trains. Did dungeons for the cosmetics, but was LF a bigger guild thats active and did a lot of stuff together. Trained a bit of crafting to get some Ascended pieces. Only got like 60-70?% of map completion
I’m also not afraid of grinding stuff for legendaries and such

The only reason it wouldn’t be worth it is if you just don’t find it appealing.

If you enjoy lots of combat and exploring, HoT is for you! But if you like your maps relatively flat and easy to navigate and your enemies dead without putting up a fight, you may be disappointed.

At that price, it’s a good deal in my opinion. The gliding alone makes the core world more fun to get around in.

But I really enjoy playing in the new zones, particularly the metas in VB, DS and TD. AB not so much, even though it’s the most popular. lol

You might like to try the revenant, I really like some of the elite specializations, and there’s plenty of decent changes to WvW.

Yeah I’d go for it.

I’d say HoT is worth about 30 dollars, so yes, give it a go. The story is bad, but the 4 maps are pretty great. Just don’t grind the metas over and over ir you’ll become extremely jaded towards them like me.

NO it’s not. In wvw and pvp its full of nothing but cancer condi zerg/blob hugging spammers. and pve is nothing but endless grind. the anet white-knights are going to jump all over me but idc they are lifeless conformists that live on these forums 24/7.

Yes, because me liking something you don’t like is being a “lifeless conformists”. Not that I have different views on what I find “fun”.

I would personally say its worth it, but thats makes me a Lifless Conformists apparently, so take it was you will.

Despite the fact I don’t like the 4 new maps, HoT is definetely worth 22€. Catching up won’t be a problem, and you will find people everywhere.
Gliding itself makes a lot of things easier in Central Tyria.

I’d say it’s worth it, given the sale price atm.

The Reaper spec alone is enough to make it worth the buy, IMO. The story is weak, but the layered maps, all the gliding, interesting meta events and quite a bunch of NPCs are truly great. I also love some of the new skins, specially Fix-R-Upper.

If you can wait a few months (maybe several) as they get closer to the next expansion, I’d wager they’ll put out the $10 dollar deal.

I pre-purchased the $100 Ultimate version and have not regretted spending it all. I am having a blast playing in the old and new areas pretty much every day. I am still finding new things to see and do.

I was very hesitant to buy HoT. I actually took a break from the game for a few months after HoT released, and didn’t buy it until I came back a few months ago. I’m not regretting paying full price for it.

Same. No regrets paying the $100. Excellent “$-for-fun” ratio but then what one considers fun is always subjective so you really just have to decide for yourself. The maps are incredibly well designed but they are intended to be more challenging for players so many people find them frustrating and rage on them.
