Hello all,

Considering coming back and trying out GW2 to see if its improved since launch. Would you guys recommend coming back or no?

Originally left about a month after launch due to no real endgame progression. Would you say there is some PVE endgame progression now? Also have most of the bugs been fixed from launch? And one last question what new stuff has been added that you really enjoy?

Thank you for your time if you read this and respond

theres fractals, however it is gated because of agony (new condition only in fractals) and you can only get so high.

there are still a huge amount of bugs everywhere endgame. about half the events in orr are still bugged and don’t work and Anet seems to not really care. so between all that and the massive amount of RNG/DR in the game, no, I’d find something else. I’m looking for something but right now theres nothing interesting thats not in a closed beta.

I’m pretty sure that dungeons, Wvw and spvp are still considered the end game. A lot of bugs have been fixed but a few new ones have popped up. I suggest just jumping back in and seeing if it is your cup of tea. The worst that can happen is that you find out that there is still nothing to do that you care for and log out. Check the patch notes that have been posted since you left.

The game is endgame progression. All of it. Traditional endgame doesn’t exist as it was made with that in mind and has never pretended it was going to have otherwise.

Someone posted a numerical list of bug fixes from launch and yes masses have been fixed, but yes like any MMO some will persist.

I still enjoy it – largely because it is different enough from other mmos. I didn’t want trinity or endgame etc because I still play and enjoy thoise and another clone is just overkill. I’m loving the temporary content and the do-what-ever-I-want gameplay. The style of game hasn’t changed since you left though, nor would it have after only 8 months. It’s just a bit shinier (in my opinion)

Its free to play – it wont take long for you to see if you like it since you already bought the game.

I’m just curious and not starting a fight, but, why don’t you simply come back and decide on your own?

As much as I am at fists with Anet, this is probably the worst place to ask this question. As you can tell, the forum is the place where you learn the bad news about the game. So my suggestion is to try it out yourself and see if you would recommend coming back yourself, instead of listening to what others say.

But with that out of the way, here is some quick info for you.

Seeing as you left a month after launch, sadly it is going to feel like no new content has been introduced if you are coming back right now. All the content we have been getting is all temporary content that is gone now. Except for the current content that is here, but it will be leaving when it is over as well. So while a bunch of new content has been added, it was all temporary so you won’t see it any ways. Thus feeling like nothing new has been added.

A lot of bugs have been fixed since launch, even new features have been implemented to some of the basic systems. The bots and gold sellers at release have been cut down a lot as well. Barely see them anymore. You can also preview items now in the trading post, back slots have visual appearances now (well some of them do), there is a lot of other things changed about drops and such (say hello to the wonderful diminishing returns mechanic and all the new RNG on everything).

As for any sort of progression, they added Fractals of the Mist. Which is basically a never ending dungeon that requires a new gear type called Ascended gear. Which you get from doing Fractals, Dailies, Guild Missions, and the Mystic Toilet. So if you’re looking for some sort of gear grind with some kind of progression, there ya go.

The gem store has been loaded with all kinds of new stuff. Including the long awaited Makeover Kits and Name Change Contracts. A few new clothing items and some weapon skins you missed and holiday costumes that are no longer there.

All in all, I’d say log in for yourself since the game has no subscription, and give the game a look over. Never hurts to check things out. If you don’t like it, you can just go back to whatever you were doing. If you do like it, it doesn’t cost you anything to start playing again.

Hope that helps.

Thank you to the others who posted before this guy for adding something relevant. This comment was however unneeded. No one is out to place blame on anyone. I was simply asking a couple questions to get other peoples opinions. Kind of like reading a game review? But you probably have issues with people who read game reviews as well based on your outlook. Thanks anyways and to everyone whose posting thanks again I think I might jump back in feel it out a little.

Lolwat! You should probably file a ticket with support telling them that the numerous content updates and patchesthat have come out since launch haven’t been downloading to your computer.

Honestly, it might not have been content you like, but saying that there has been no new content is just ridiculous and makes any statement you say lose all credibility.

Content, temporary or not, is content. Either enjoy it and play it while it’s there or don’t, but don’t try and say it wasn’t there.

Might be wrong, but, year after the original GW released we already had Factions and Sorrow’s Furnance.

Not to mention PvP was great and you could play it endlessly.

You were right.

Prophecies was released on April 28, 2005. Sorrow’s Furnace came in a patch on September 7, 2005. Factions was released on April 28, 2006. Exactly a year after the release of Prophecies.

GW2 was released on August 28, 2012. It hasn’t even been a year yet. And Fractals was released on November 16, 2012.

So unsure what your comparison is all about, but they seem to be on the exact same schedule so far as to GW1 was. GW1 was released, Sorrow’s Furnace was introduced in a patch, then an expansion came. GW2 was released, Fractals of the Mist was introduced in a patch, and several new (temporary) content was added as well. As for an expansion coming in August, we have no idea. We have no information to compare it to, so you can’t really compare it to how GW1 did their expansions.

Also take into account that the first Guild Wars was a small game in comparison to Guild Wars 2. So there is lot more work involved in making content and expansions for Guild Wars 2 than there was for Guild Wars.

Unless you are being delusional about the size of Sorrow’s Furnace it isn’t any bigger than Southsun Cove. The equivalent of Factions would require handing over another $60 to ANet. Not sure what you are trying to get at there.

Yep a year after Prophecies released, you had Sorrows Furnace (which is not as replayable to me as Fractals, or even close) and you had Factions (which was a completely different game that split the population in 2 parts and caused other problems as well). Of course Factions wasn’t a free expansion, so you can’t compare it, can you?

The monthly content patches we get are free. And some people seem to enjoy them. If you don’t, I’m sure you can probably find a game you like. After all, you’re not paying for the expansions.

There is only one small problem with that though.

The content they have introduced all this time, is all temporary content that is gone now (except for Fractals). So if you are just joining the game now, it is like nothing has been added to the game since release.

Sure those of us who have been playing since beta, have seen all the new content. But any new players won’t see any of this new content that was released. They will still see the base game only. Cause it was all temporary content. So to them, nothing has been added and the game hasn’t had any updates since Fractals.

I suggest you log in and try it if you don’t like it, that’s okay. No harm done. I also suggest that you come back during the big Living Story events like F/F and SoS, etc. Those are known to be fun, and would be totally worth it to get on, do the achievements then log off. The decision is yours. Also to quell your boredom, play with friends. This game is not fun unless you are in a party. Just go to some random dude and invite them to party and if they ask just say: “I’m bored yo.” I try to get people to like this game by inviting them to my party and helping them out. There is endless amount of things you can do in this game, we just narrow what we can do down so we are left with doing hardly anything. Either way, have fun, hope to see you in game.

Another vote for going in game and trying it yourself. Considering it’s free the most you’ll lose is a bit of time and you’ll get a much better idea of what the game is like now than you could from reading the forum.

But in answer to your question no there is no official ‘end game’, definitely not any type of progression at end-game and I think it’s likely there never will be. There are however a huge number of things to do at level 80, including regular updates with new content (both temporary and permanent).

You’re right, I do, it’s called -forming my own opinion-.
If I had done as you have done, I’d never bother to try anything and rely totally on someone else to do my thinking for me.

As I stated, I’m not looking to start a fight, I asked a question.
And it appears that while it’s ok for -you- to ask questions, you cannot seem to abide someone asking questions of you.

Still no endgame progression. The only endgame there is is the same stuff that was there at launch.

Still tons of bugs. Some new. Some there since launch.

There has been new content, like Fractals but these become monotonous very quickly. Same levels, just more mobs with more HPs.

If you left the game about a month after launch because you were dissatisfied, you probably will still be dissatisfied. The game hasn’t changed that much.

Agreed. With all this content coming out, there is a lot to do. For example: New content/update on May 28th. They seems to be doing the content on a biweekly bases, one update per two weeks. So fairly fast. Don’t miss it.

If you have an hour to spare you might want to watch/listen to this. It covers content additions (temporary and permenant) as well as major game changes on a month by month basis since launch. At the end of the day it’s up to you whether you think any of these are inticing enough to give it a try, but if it’s information you want this is a good source (imo).
