Q:

My question is would it be effective and sensible to level from 1-80 using only WvW. I’m wondering this because I’ve restarted my character a lot, switching between professions and trying to find my fit. And this is making me kind of bored of questing and such. So I’m wondering, since I enjoy WvW from what I’ve tried would I be able to just get all the way to 80 in WvW and then do all the boring exploration later, or would I be useless to my server going into WvW at such a low level? And better yet would I be able to actually kill players even though I’m lacking the end game gear?

Would you be able?? Yes!
Would it be effective?? No (unless you get help)!

The thing is that in WvW you get upped to level 80, but you don’t have max stats and you need to unlock skills by killing and leveling up.

The solution is joining a zerg. But you could ask yourself (specificly on a server with a queue for WvW) if you are helping your world with taking a spot for a leveling character.

My alternate advise is to level to level 30 so you have reasonable traits, stats and all skills and then you can join the zerg and actually make a difference.

Although this argument is heavily server-dependent. Personally, I have never seen a queue for WvW and leveled one of my alts mainly there; I have never felt that I am “taking” someones spot.
The same argument would go for doing map completion or jumping puzzles – are you really sure that when the player cap is reached, one person makes any difference?

Yep very server-dependant as you said, when i played back on my old server “Whiteside Ridge” there was NEVER EVER any queues to any of the wvw maps, now that I moved to Gandara, there is as good as always queue to EB, and even sometimes for the borderlands as well

It’s effective ( as in, you level up pretty fast ), but I wouldn’t suggest you to start from level 1, as you will be extremely weak and won’t be able to kill almost anything by yourself. Lv 30 should be enough to actually pose a minimum threat, but I’d strongly avoid going solo until you are 80. Sticking with zergs will earn you great exp/karma but you’ll be on the low side regarding coins. You CAN significantly help your server when there are no queues by manning siege, repairing towers/keeps and generally bringing supply around, but don’t expect to be as effective as a level 80.

As everybody else has suggested, I recommend doing it at level 30. So quest/hearts/storyline etc 1-30, then wvw 30-80. 30 will be slow, but it should start to pick up around 50-60. Also, try to find a zerg or roaming group. Sometimes my guild gets put in charge of defending tower/keeps on certain maps, and that’s usually a lot of supply running & waiting.

Also, if there is no queue, don’t feel bad for being in wvw. You’re not taking anybody’s spot.
