As the title says I play a lot of WvW and was wondering what would be a good ranger build?

I’ve been going with a longbow / Greatsword and doing pretty well. Use the healing well and spirits to support your team, the cripple trap for kiting and the retaliation skill in case you get into trouble. For traits I went marksman, skirmishing and nature.

Use your arrow aoe every time it is up. It has decent damage, but it is very visual and whole zergs tend to move out of the way when they see it. Use the trap if you are out in the open and the retaliation for when you need to escape, or run through a zerg into a keep.

The healing well has a low cool down so I like to pop it to help heal team mates even when I don’t need it. Also use your buffing spirits often, but don’t put them in the middle of an aoe or they die quickly.

If they get into melee range or you need a quick execute and have no cooldowns left, switch weapons and fly to them with the GS followed by a quick bleed(#2). I like to dodge back out and lay down the trap after that as if I stay in melee range too long, I’m usually dead.

I’ve found that Ranger is a good mix of damage and utility in WvW and I’m enjoying it a lot.

axe/warhorn + shortbow.

Warhorn for shout (speed/dmg) axe for initial bleed/snare.
Shortbow has the same range (without traits) as longbow, and deals higher dps than longbow on a single target. Combined with Quickening Zephyr you can 100-0 a player from behind within the 4 seconds of zephyr.
The utility on shortbow is also much better than longbow, as you have a full 1,200 range snare, as well as an evade shot that will give you speed when it hits. There is also an interrupt shot that will also stun if behind target.

If you are just looking to plink targets and not really kill anyone, or to just zerg around, then longbow is actually quite nice. You get to see numbers popping up over a group when you AE them.
