Guild Wars 2

Right now my WvW rank is fairly low, and I have many rank up chests left to earn. If I rank up while playing a low-level toon, do I miss out on anything from rank up chests? For example, is the gear reward level-specific and thus prevents receiving a rare or exotic?

I am especially concerned about losing out on any ascended drops, so if anyone can confirm whether they’ve received one via rank up chest on a low-level toon, it is much appreciated.

Low level toons, as far as I know, will only get gear that’s around their level. That’s been my experience when getting rank up chests on my non-80s in wvw. I’ve only ever gotten ascended on my 80s.

Well, I cannot provide the confirmation that you seek, but I am going to assume the wvw chests function like most other areas of the game where character level does not affect the possibility of ascended or exotic drops, and only affects the level of lower tier items that you receive (rares, greens, blues, etc.).

I presume that rewards are dependent on your toon’s level, as most reward bags are.

It would be nice if a CM or GM could step in and give a definitive answer, but until then, I will be pessimistic.

I did see a streamer a few months back who got to rank 10, on a low level character, and got an ascended chest. I wish I could remember who that was so I could check though.

He was new and didn’t actually understand what he got.

Even lowbies can get lvl 80 exotics (in pve) so I assume rank up chest work same. I think only your chance to get better stuff (exo/asc) is lower with lowbie.

The only level 80 exotics you can get as a low level character (as a drop) are the special leveling exotics (ones that are exotic but, like, level 10, 20, 30, etc.) or champ bag exclusive exotics (Arc, Crustacea, Cobalt, Genesis, Bonetti’s Rapier, etc.).

I lvl’d several of my characters on running AC/CM/TA stories, and I got few lvl 80 exotics including armour on them that weren’t from champ boxes (my lvl 80 opened those).
