1. armor durability & race
my friend noticed that asura and sylvari armour breaks faster than on human or norn
(shield icon pops at equipment at hero tab thing)
and i myself cant really confirm anything because they are about the only races ive played over level 10.

so does it depend on your race how fast your armor breaks?

2. installation, registration & computer
if you install the game at one computer, and play it there, but then install it elsewhere, can you play it in that location (2nd install) anymore?
my friend works with computers and i gave him a game, but he said its better to register and install on my computer for my account, and his account on his computer – but does that really matter?
he said some games are function like that.
but registration is done at internet, a web browser.

does it matter wich computer i install the game for first time?

thank you in advance. just curious about these small details.

1) Races/class/etc doesn’t matter. Armor breaks when you die.
2) You can play the game from multiple locations/computers.

Every time you die, a piece of armor gets damaged. You have six armor pieces and a back piece (if equipped) that have to each get damaged before a piece breaks. So, assuming you have all seven items equipped, if you die seven times and don’t repair your armor, a piece of your armor will “break” on your next death; this means that the piece that broke will no longer give you any stat benefits. This happens regardless of your class or race.

You have to die 7(or 8 times if you alternating with land and water) in a row without any repairs in between before any piece of armor will break. Before that it is only damaged. Damaged armor is functionally equivalent to normal armor, you only have to care if the armor is broken.

When you play(actually when you try to log in) from each new location you will get an email asking for authorization for access from that location. That is the only thing that matters in terms of location.

The game tracks where you log in from, and if you log in from a new location or sometimes a new computer it will ask you to verify your log in through an automated email. You have the option of saving the location for future logins or just allowing the log-in once, say if you’re just visiting a friends house.

If your armor is breaking more on a particular character, like the person above said it must be that you’re dying more. Most likely the difference is how well you’re playing those classes that just happen to be sylvari or asuran, but it could also be the difficulty of the areas where your sylvari and asuran characters happen to be playing in frequently.

Armor

As everyone else said your armor is only damaged or broken when you die. Every time you die one piece of your armor is damaged (orange shield symbol) and once it’s all been damaged each time you die one piece will break. When it’s broken it turns invisible and you get no benefit from it’s stats or upgrades. Basically it’s like you’re not wearing it any more except that it still sits in the slot.

How often you die depends on a number of factors but race isn’t one of them. Profession can be though because different professions have different amounts of health and armor and so some are harder to keep alive than others. If your friend is playing, for example, an asuran Mesmer, a sylvari elementalist and a human warrior then his asuran and sylvari characters probably will die more often, especially at lower levels.

Playing on different computers

The short version is that this game doesn’t have any type of DRM tying it to a specific computer. You can install it on as many computers as you like and play your account from any of them, or any other computer that has it installed.

The long version is that when you buy a copy you get two seperate things:
1) Either a CD with the game installation files on or a link to download them.
2) An account key.

The CD/installation can be used as many times as you like. If you bought a digital copy or don’t have the CD with you it’s possible to download the installation files from the GW2 website by logging into your account and then going to My Account > Download Client. You can also copy the .exe and use that to install the game.

Anet don’t need to worry about people re-using or sharing copies of the game because to actually play you also need an account key.

Account keys are limited to 1 per purchase and can only be used once. The account is saved on the game’s servers, not your PC. Which means you can log into the game from any PC which has it installed, it doesn’t matter if it’s the same one you installed the game on or not.

For example when my husband got GW2 he didn’t even bother using his installation CD, he just registered his account and used ‘my’ copy of the game to play it. And if I go to my friends house I can play my account on her PC just by typing in my email and password because the account isn’t tied to any specific computer.

The other side to this is that it’s completely useless to give someone a copy of the games CD or files unless they have also bought a copy, because they won’t be able to create an account without an account key and they can’t get an account key without buying the game. But it sounds like that’s not what you’re trying to do, so it doesn’t matter for you.

I have the game installed on my desktop and laptop (for, of course, playing away from home). The only way that logging onto the game from a different computer matters is that, as others have said, ANet will send you an email asking you to confirm your identity when you log into the game from a different location (determined by IP address) than you’ve logged in from in the past. If your ISP assigns IP’s dynamically, you may be asked to reconfirm your identity when that IP is changed even if you’re playing on the same computer you usually do.

The verification routine will ask you if you want to have the location (IP) remembered for future log-ins. Basically, follow the same rules you do for having your location remembered by other applications depending on whether the location is a “trusted” one.
