I’m a new player to GW2, but not to MMOs. I like to PVE, PVP, solo, run dungeons and raid. I generally play rogues, ranged or healer. Any suggestions on a class?

if ur looking for stealth like rouge then thief is your best bet on healer everyone has their own healing skill but if u want to play heavy support and just sit back and let everyone else do the hard focusing on water elementalist is your best option im on the server dragonbrand a NA server if u want to go over builds, skillz and getting use to the game

Please bear in mind that there is no dedicated “healer” profession in this game. Each character has a healing skill slot that can be used for self-healing, and your profession may or may not have some other skills that also provide significant healing to yourself and/or others.

The same goes for “damage” and “tank” professions. While some professions are better at some tasks than others, ALL professions can fulfill every role within a party to some degree, depending on your build.

If you don’t want to die in combat, make sure not to get hit. Dodging is a general mechanic that is important to learn, regardless of profession. Dodging devastating attacks at the right time is far more effective in staying alive than having an extremely high Toughness/Defense/Armor score.

Finally, there are no linear quests, except the personal story. All the explorable zones in the game are meant to be explored, meaning that you can wander around and participate in the events that come your way. Completing all challenges in a map area offers significant rewards.

Have fun.

Warrior and mesmers are some of the best all-around classes (as far as pvp, wvw, pve, dungoens, etc). Mesmers are better for sPvP while warriors are better for dungeons. Each party only needs 1 mesmer, but a couple warriors are fine.

Guardians are also very good in almost everything. Very supportive, reflects, bunker builds, damage builds, etc.

Rangers are lackluster in my opinion. If you want it to go pew pew then it should please you, if you want it to be useful it won’t please you.

And thieves have the stealth ability mostly (mesmers have some, but not as heavy as the thief does). They are relatively good for PvE, sPvP, and small roaming in wvw.

RIP in peace Robert

Step 1: Forget everything about traditional MMO’s. If you don’t do this step, GW2 will be boring.

Step 2: Press spacebar to jump.

Step 3: Do what you want ’cause a pirate is free.

Step 4: You are not a pirate.

Step 5: Pirates are found in Lion’s Arch.

As you wait, read up on how the quests work in this game, it’s a bit different. See Dynamic Events, Renown Hearts.

Hey! Not sure about class advice cause I never played any mmo long enough until gw2 to know how in general they compare…But as far as rogue, range, and healer go, as already said there is no real healer class, and also every class actually has a large variety of available weapons. Every class in the game has access to both melee and range weapons, although of course some classes are probably better suited to either melee or range.

There is a thief class which I haven’t really played much. It seems pretty cool, though. I play ranger, which can be ranged or actually just melee. I play it ranged and I enjoy it. My best advice would be to pick a class you think sounds good, try it out for a while (like up to lv 20-30 atleast) and then if you don’t like it, try a new class. There are a lot of options for different builds based on all the traits and weapons and stuff though.

Anyways welcome to guild wars 2! feel free to add me (Sarahsaur) and chat or anything.

I am a WvW player.
