Guild Wars 2

At the moment, I am patching the game and as this is my 1st time playing, I wanted to know what the best starting race/profession is.

I am more drawn towards human atm for 3 reasons,
(1) I have seen the starting mission at the BETA thing, so i know what to do.
(2) Humans seem to be the most neutral of all races.
(3) Due to the (assumed) neutral nature of them, I assume that the human areas in the in-game world will be in the centre, making it easier to decide where I want to go.

As for profession.,..I’m not sure which one is best for 1st time players.

human warrior. the most basic and plain class.

Just pick the class you think is the most fun to play. I’ve picked ranger as my first class because i like ranged classes and had the most experience in playing a “ranger like” class (Hunter in WoW). I tried Warrior: didnt like that, Guardian: fun, and now Mesmer: love it. Just create a character play and if you dont like it switch class/race

There is nothing wrong with human warrior. I have one. He was my 7th character.

Seriously, the best one is the one that feels most interesting to you. None of them are impossibly hard even as the first one. Some classes get defeted more easily than others, but so what? Just dust yourself, get up and continue.

Learning to dodge is very useful for all classes, even warriors.

Your race doesn’t have as much effect as your profession.

Humans have the easiest and most populated beginner area: Queensdale. But I found their personal story a bit bland.

Sylvari have the most difficult beginner area: Caledon Forest. Asura’s beginning area, Metrica Provice, is 2nd most difficult, but Asuras have amazing and funny stories (e.g. select golem as your 1st invention).

Engineer is the most difficult profession to play effectively. Warrior, Guardian, Ranger and Thief are all good beginner choices, so go with one of them.

Humans are not the most neutral race!
Maybe Asura or Sylvari, but not Humans.

Class is up to you, but maybe Guardian or Elementalist.

Just try one and see how it feels after you get through a few levels. your first toon you should fall in love with the game fairly quickly

Well, I can’t say much for humans because I’ve never played one. I usually like picking races that don’t relate to me what so ever. I picked Charr as my first character. The race is very war-like, and it has some pretty entertaining moments as well. The starting area is not too difficult either. =P
