So I have reached level 10 in the human starting zone. Grinding the hearts is a little slow, I tried to mad king lab which wasn’t too bad but I think my group was pretty weak so most events were taking a long time. (probably lots of noobs like me trying to leech the exp :P )

Is there a common or preferred area to level up quickly? I know I have been warned over and over to take it slow, but I prefer to go level quickly than explore and have fun with wvw/pvp etc. The lore and the story isn’t my main interest.

thanks all!

Level fast: spend real $ on gems, convert to gold, buy crafting materials. Craft to 80. I leveled my mesmer to 80 in one weekend (had the gold already though from playing my main).

If you’re new to the game, it really is good to level naturally. You can go to all different race starter places, so it doesn’t get boring.

is there a specific profession to craft with that’s more economical than another to lvl that way?

All crafting professions give 7 levels if taken to 400. Weapnsmith, Artificer and Huntsman go to 500, and the 400-500 yield another 3 levels but is ridiculously expensive. Chef is probably the cheapest craft to level at the moment, but uses unique ingredients. But again if this is your first time playing, level normally. It is much better in the long run.

This site is excellent for crafting your way to 400 in any craft. I haven’t used it for 400-500 yet, but I suspect its equally as awesome.

I used gw2crafts.net for leveling my mesmer. It worked great. Remember to not refresh the page though, as it’s updated like every half hour or hour and so ingredients WILL change.

You can also go to queensdale and join the champion train. Each champion killed counts as an event, so it should give you a fair share of XP to level up (actually I heard of people leveling up characters to 80 without leaving queensdale.. I guess they see it sort of like the old leveling up in old ascalon in GW1). This picture should give you an idea of where to go for each one called on map, and the order they’re killed:

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.

You can’t do dungeons until at least level 30 i believe, and even then you’ll have a hard time finding a group of same level to do one. Most want level 80 with best gear. There’s lots of other things to do though. WvW (world versus world), where you are upscaled to level 80 (but 1 on 1 you’ll probably die a lot so you want to stay with a large group, or zerg). WvW gives good xp and karma and materials.

Otherwise, I find that even running around getting all waypoints and points of interest really ups your xp quite quickly.

Thank you for all the advice, this community has been very helpful so far. I started some trains tonight and the exp was good, and the loot wasn’t too shabby either. A few people in game say this is their way to farm gold all the time.

I have yet to try WVW.. so maybe I should see what that’s all about

Thanks!

Great site, thanks for the link.

1) Always eat your food!!! They are very inexpensive for the lower level foods and can be purchased from TP (trading post) if you don’t want to become a chef. In addition to various added effects, most of them offer an xp boost on kills even though it’s not listed on the wiki.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Food

2) Map completion. Go to a starter area, find all the POIs (points of intrest), Vistas, WPs (way points), SP (skill points), and do all the hearts. This actually gives a good bit of xp. Lion’s arch, and all the starting cities (accessible via LA) have map completion as well. You can go to a major city, complete the map, then move into that race’s starting area. A little hint for the hearts… Many of them want you to find and/or activate things like a trap or a bush. Hold down the Crtl key to make these items more visible and easier to find. Anyone know how to sticky this key??

3) Events. While doing map completing, stop and participate in all the events. This gets you coins, xp, and karma even if the event fails. Most events are soloable even at a low level.

4) Kill everything. Even yellow animals give xp. Most of the time, killing reds on a map will count toward the nearest heart completion. And if you’ve eaten food, you get the bonus xp.

5) Crafting. I think this topic has already been covered by above posters.

6) Personal story. This gives huge chunks of XP. I will explore and do map completion and when I’m one level below the recommended level for the next story I’ll go do it. If you enjoy they personal journey, then it takes a little time to watch all the dialog. If you don’t, you can skip right through it, though you will be completely lost on the story and lore. If this is your first toon, I recommend watching all the dialogues and cinematic. IMO It’s very well done. But I’ll be honest, I have 7 characters, and I skipped through all of their story lines, except for my very first character.
