Guild Wars 2

I used to have an account for Guild Wars 2 which I completely forgot about when I made another some time ago (which is my current one) I wanted to make a new character with a name that I use for a lot of things which I found out was taken. I ended up realizing that I had made another account and logged into it only to find out that the name I wanted was in this account. I deleted the character and went back to my main account. When making my character the game didn’t allow me to take the name of the character I had already deleted. The game keeps telling me that the name is in use but the character doesn’t exist. Do I have to wait some time for that name to become available or is that name stuck to that account?

deleted names are saved for 72 hours in case the deleter changes his mind, or want to reroll the character with the same name.
Wait 2 days, and try again. (or was it 48 hours? I forget, wiki it)

Why are names unique anyway? Why not let people name themselves whatever they want even if someone else already took it?

Wonder how the name policy would work in real life.
“Sorry, you can’t name your child Jesus, it’s already taken. How about Jesus2568?”

Ya my boyfriend had a key farm toon name I wanted and he deleted it so I could use it and was not able to. I wondered why. Anyways a week later I was able to use it. However, if it’s a name you own and reuse there is no wait time. For ex. you delete one toon and use the name on a new toon, no wait.

And thats becouse said name is locked to the account for 24 hours.

Uh. good thing the game doesn’t rely on character names but uses account names. Makes sense for account names, but they even get around that by adding .####
I see no reason to have character names be unique.

It’s a common limitation in computer systems. There’s 2 people at my company called Aaron Smith. So one is on the email list as Aaron Smith and the other is Aaron Smith2 because apparently there is no other way to distinguish them.

And yes people send emails to the wrong one all the time. Same with me and someone who has the same surname and a slightly different first name.

Hey, going back to the topic – I created a demo toon during the expansion preview, it’s no longer available obvsly, and now I want to re-create the same character permanently, but it tells me the name is already in use…. I’m pretty sure no one would use the exact same combination :/

I think it’s been over 24 hours since they deactivated the demos?

The Devs stated they have yet to delete the Demo characters.
