cpu or gpu intensive?
Forgot to mention in pve zone (just started playing Sunday) frame rate is good enough with things turned down. At the moment not looking for maxed out settings just a little increase for now.
The game is more CPU dependant than GPU and upgrading your CPU will probably make the biggest difference.
I’m not massively familiar with ATI compared to NVidia and I’m on my phone at the moment, so I can’t really research your current card to the one you intend to buy so can’t really comment on that.
nerds talking that its CPU intensive, due to poor game optimization , especially in wvw.
This game is very CPU dependent, the reason being is that GW2 requires strong single thread performance, which Intel CPUs supply better than AMD at the moment. AMD generally has more cores, but GW2 does not take advantage of them.

Agreed that game is CPU dependent. The good news is that modern day processors are so overclockable its easy to get great performance on the cheap.
I am running really well on a 2 year old 2.8 ghz i5 760. Have it running @ 4.01 ghz and could probably go higher.
Read up on overclocking, always watch your temps and get a decent after market cooler….they are really cheap these days as well.
For what it’s worth, my system was shutting down every time the display would get busy because the CPU cores were overheating. I had to install a fan and disable CPU turbo to be able to play the game.
Not definitive, but this leads me to think it’s the CPUs that get a workout from GW2.
Hey thanks a lot for the answers, I will look into a CPU upgrade instead.
