crafting, help
You need either do “discover” (the anvil in the crafting screen, on the left, at the top) or buy recipes from (karma) Merchants
Discover means putting 3 or 4 components together on the anvil…the game will tell you if the components you use are resulting in an item. Once you did that, the item will appear in your crafting list (second to top left, right underneath the anvil)
go on gw2crafts.net
It will help you to level up your crafting as fast as possible, with the less quantity of material possible.
Crafting is divided up into 5 tiers of 75 points for levels 0 to 400. Each tier is divided up into 3 sub-tiers or levels of 25 points each. So when crafting at 0 – 24 you are making stuff for character level 10 ; crafting from 25 – 49 you are making stuff for character level 15 and from 50 to 74 you’re making stuff for character level 20. And so on until at crafting levels 375 -399 (Edit: actually crafting levels 374 – 500 are for level 80) you are making stuff for character level 80.
Now concentrating on weapons and armor: each tier uses its own basic material (ore, wood and cloth Edit: and leather) and its own fine crafting materials. The basic materials must be refined and then made into components. The fine crafting materials need to be made into inscriptions (for weapons) and insignias (for armor). The inscriptions and insignias will also need some basic materials.
It is best when first progressing to a new tier to refine all your basic materials, while you still can earn some crafting XP doing it. Then make all the components you think you will need for the whole tier, while still earn crafting XP doing it. If you are crafting stuff for your use then make what you will need else make components that require the least amount of resources. For weapons also make the dowels for the inscriptions you will need.
If you have not progressed past the first level in the tier then make the least amount of inscriptions or insignias you will need to progress to the second level of the tier. Build the weapons or armor by discovering the recipes using these insignias or inscriptions and the components you had already built. Once in the second level in the tier make the insignias or inscriptions for that level and discover the recipes for that level.
When you get to the 3rd level in a tier you will require more fine crafting materials to make the inscriptions and insignias. You will be making master level stuff for that tier. Then just progress through all the tiers.
Good luck.

The inscriptions / Insignias (and some items) at the higher levels (Rare (yellow) and up) REQUIRE that you obtain the recipes to craft them. There is no way around it.

so I need to level up to 50 for new improvment recipes show-up. wow, long way to go.
I understand discovery can level up crafting very fast, but now I am kind of runing out things to discover, and I found making is not a good way to go either, because its xp goes down every quickly with your crafting level goes up.
Now I am thinking is it an efficient way to get your own gears? like by the time my warrior can craft lvl15 gears, it already lvl 20ish(thanks for discory, it jumped few levels in front of the crafting workshop), and buy a green lvl20 gear is affordable.
So do u guys lvl up crafting to make your own gears, of just want to get the xp to level up your heroes?
Like i said SkyFierce go on gw2crafts.net if you don’t want to waste material, gold and time.
For your question, the answer is no. People that craft their armor as they level up are usually new players only. Its one of the worst way to gear up. By playing normally, you should get some gear anyway and I usually complete that with gear that I buy on the TP. This gear is either things that other people had craft or pick up while playing. There is so many people crafting to level up that the price of that kind of stuff is less than the cost for crafting it, so you win there and you don’t need to waste time and money to level up your profession before crafting the item you need.
Crafting is in a weird place in GW2. Right now :
- Chef is good to have a 400 to craft food that cost more on the TP.
- Artificer is good at low level to combine essence of luck and fractal infusion
- Aritifcer, Weaponsmith, Huntsman, Armorsmith, Leatherworking and Tailoring is good at 500 to craft end game gear.
- Legendary always need some crafting to level 400
And that’s pretty much it. There is some other specific things you can craft other than that, but for the most part there is always a better way than crafting to get the stuff you want.

Beg to differ. It is actually quite difficult to craft appropriate level gear as a new player as you don’t normally have the materials yet, nor the funds to buy materials. I crafted my own equipment each 15 levels (Masterwork) for every character I have (one of each Class) except the first few (because I didn’t have the materials nor funds to keep up my crafting item levels with my character levels).
If you collect materials along the way, it is not difficult to do, but you have to alternate characters (rather than rush a single character up to 80), so you can raise your crafting when materials become available.
IMO, buying equipment at ALL (from TP, karma vendors, etc.) is a complete waste as you are going to trash the equipment rather quickly as you level. I think I spent Karma on a few RARE weapons at LVL 40 & 60 and bought the Guild Backpacks when they became available to me, but everything else was either drops or crafted.
You can certainly do it as you describe, but saving your resources until you reach 80 (when your equipment actually matters) is a smarter move in my honest opinion.
