Hey guys. I’m going to delete a level 41 character to free up the slot for another, but I’d hate to see all that accumulated Karma go to waste. Is there anything worthwhile I can purchase with it? Note that recipes don’t interest me, and I already have plenty of the X in Bulk cooking ingredients. So, any suggestions?

Buy karma cooking ingredients and stock up on them is my best idea at such a low level

Only way to make SOME money off of it is at 80 and that takes 168,000 karma at least

80 Guardian. 80 Warrior. 80 Thief. 80 Engineer. 80 Necromancer. 80 Ranger.

If you don’t care about mats and such like you seem to say. You can always burn the karma on skins for you new char, like going and getting a t3 cultural asura 2hander peacemaker sword and transmuting it to some low lvl blue, and giving it to new character. Or whatever floats your boat depending on your new char. Free weapon/armor skins if you just gonna delete him anyway.

Transmute will make things soulbound.

Put the items in the bank. Your new character will do the transmuting.

Unless they changed it in the latest patch, karma weapons are soulbound on acquire.

But at the moment the best way to convert karma to gold is to buy the jewlery boxes from orr. They cost around 4k karma each and you get a chance to get lodestones, which sell from 1 to 4 golds on the trading post.

Someone did the math and came to the conclusion that you can get around 1silver per 150 karma on average for many boxes opened.

I thought about that. I also thought about stockpiling Orichilium gathering tools, but in both cases I’d have to get to and survive Orr. As a lowly level 41, I don’t think that’s going to be an option.

You guys have any other suggestions?

You could stockpile salvage kits and non-ori gather tools if you have bank space to hoard them. In each map, there is (at least) one karma vendor for each type of tool, so your level 41 has access to at least copper and iron tools, if not steel. Also, stock up on any crafting food ingredients you can grab – sure, you may not like crafting now, but it’s an easy way to get some quick levels!

One last thing you could do (if it works, not in game right now so I don’t know for sure) is go to your home borderlands in WvW, buy gear from the karma vendors there, and toss it in the Mystic Forge. I’m not sure what level the lowest yellow (rare) equipment are, so maybe check if you could MF greens → yellows or go with blues → greens.

I think I can get Mithril gathering tools from one of the charr zones. It’s not as good as Orich, but it’s not a bad alternative. Unfortunately, I’m not interested in the lowest tier of salvage kits (which is all karma vendors offer), but that thought had crossed my mind.

I on the contrary, I greatly enjoy crafting. But I’ve already got 250 of every single karma ingredient in the game (give or take 40, depending on how frequently it is used in the crafting of food). It’s not that I don’t want the ingredients, it’s that I don’t need them. And more importantly, I don’t have the bank space for any more of them.

I’ve not played with the Mystic Forge at all, so I don’t know if this would work (or be worthwhile) or not.

Ah, sorry! I misinterpreted your original post. If you are even remotely willing to buy more ingredients, I would say go buy chickpeas, eggplants, and peaches. Lots of ’em. Because there is no such thing as too many chickpea fritters, eggplant fritters, and peach tarts.

And while in general the MF is a bad investment, any karma -> gold conversion you can do in this case would mean a profit. Can someone else comment on the ability to put lower level Karma stuff into the MF?

After running a few Heart Events in Sparkfly Fen, I’m now the proud (not really) owner of more than 150 stacks of Mithril Harvesting Tools.

Something that’s going to hurt when I delete this guy (after magically finding room to store all the tools) is losing a character with Black Dye unlocked. I checked the price of all the dyes I’d be losing, and all were less than a gold except for the Black, which was 10 gold. Replacing that whenever I get around to making a new Thief character (I’m looking at you, Tengu…make it happen) is going to hurt.

Wait, wait, wait. You’re going to pay 10 gold for a new black dye when you make a new thief? Why not just pay ~15 gold for 800 gems to buy an extra character slot and keep the current thief? Since you’re planning to eventually buy the slot anyway, why not do it now and just pay 15 gold, instead of in the future and pay 25 gold (15 for the slot, 10 for the black dye).

I’m curious…if he were to dye a chestpiece with the black dye and use the transmutation trick to get the skin to his new thief, would it stay dyed?

I’m operating under the assumption that A) Tengu will be added to the game at some point in the future, the purchase of the inevitable expansion will come with a free character slot, and C) when the expansion comes out I’ll be less strapped for gold than I currently am (I’m in the midst of the painful process of crafting 18-slot bags for all of my characters…and I’ve never had much gold to begin with).
