notice some changes where made to skins and transmutation stones a few months ago, just did some reading on this..

my question is this, if someone buys a 800 gem skin from the store, every time they lvl up say from 20-30 or when they get a new piece of gear that has better stats, yet they want to put the skin on it, that they bought before from the store, they have to use transmutation stones?

know you get them as you play through the game and pvp, but now we cant buy skins from the gem store anymore and use them in pvp across the account anymore either, since the pvp lockers are gone?

was confusing some, thought I would ask here, thanks..

To be precise, they don’t have the Transmutation stones (or crystals) anymore. They have Transmutation Charges.

But yes, you get one free application of the skin and then after that you have to use a Charge for each piece of armor. For this reason you may wish to wait, in PvE, until you are level 80 and are finalizing your look.

Some weapon and armor skins never require transmutation charges.

The skins you unlock from collecting achievement points do not require transmutation charges.
The skins you can receive from the Hall of Monuments (if you played Guild Wars 1) do not require transmutation charges.
I am not sure about complete armor sets from the gemstore, as I don’t own any of those.

Every other skin needs a transmutation charge after the first initial use.
(So other than GW1 rewards there are for armour only radiant or hellfire skins – helm, shoulders, gloves, example http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Radiant_Mantle_Skin )

You could look at outfits, they are complete looks and you can toggle them on and off.

Otherwise wait for sure until you have at least exotic lvl 80 gear to use those transformation charges (if you don’t want to spend money on that).

Costumes don’t require charges either.

Call them outfits, that seems to be the official term, otherwise it could be confusing.

In short, the new system does kind of “screw over” those that want to change (or maintain) their look during level up (as pretty much everyone had many spare transmutation stones (Yellows) to use for this. On the other hand, those spare stones can be turned into something useful for ALL skin applications now (so they were not just taking up space storage if the player had only 80s to deck out).

I do think they need to come up with some better method to EARN transmutation charges but since it is purely a vanity issue, I can see it being mainly a gem store purchase item. You can still get them by clearing city zones with new characters and from BL chests.
