A good elementalist uses every element at the appropriate time. Sometimes it’s best to sit in one element. Other times you need to cycle through them in some particular order. Also depends on traits, sigils and possibly runes.

Yes you can. If you want to stay in mainly fire you’ll want to go staff with trait layout of
6: I VII XI
6: VI VII XI
0:
0:
2: V
Arcane wave for a utility

This gives you permanent up time for your Lava Font with a larger area. For might stacking you’d start in earth with eruption then swap to fire for lava font and use arcane wave for 6 stacks of might. You can use arcane brilliance for an other 3 stacks as well. When in fire you keep lava font up and drop meteor shower if there are a lot of enemies or if the enemy has a large hit box and then just auto attack the rest of the time.

Staying in Fire is only feasible for staff. You won’t be a good elementalist though, just an average one. Ask the engineer forums what they feel about engineers that use only the bomb kit or only grenade kit, you’ll get generally the same response.

Elementalists are designed to be constantly swapping between attunements to be fully effective. For grouping you’ll seriously be hampering the group if you only stay in fire, but for soloing staying in one attunement isn’t going to matter as much.

Per above, if you are not constantly swapping your Attunements you aren’t fully using the potential of the Elementalist class. Yes, you can play (and be successful in PvE open world), without swapping, but you playing lazy and being inefficient when you do so.

What makes Ele such a fun class is that they are Jacks of All Trades. Each attunement has a purpose and each is necessary to master in order to survive:

Being a good Elementalist means you need to swap attunments and use the skills you need when you need them.

Here is a 30 second video demonstrating Elementalist Staff Combat:

I hope this helps! =)

while I am of the same opinion of the previous commenters I can’t help but think of this as a fun challenge.
After 1500 hours of playing elementalist its grown to be kinda dull. So maybe as to challenge myself I could try out this one-atunement thing. I’ll record and upload the results.

No, you can’t be a good ele only using fire, a good ele knows when to swap attunements/use skills etc.

So i am not a good Ele, apparently.
I hate attunement swapping, also dont like that squishy zerker full Fire and Air build.

I ended up with a more defensive fire build (for PvE yes)

How is full signet more defensive? You have nothing to defend yourself. And please take fgs.

If you’re on EU and need help to get into dungeons, pm me.

With defense i went with much more vitality, thougness and condition removal.
Perhaps i should have written more survivable then.

I’m talking about utilities. How will signet of earth, fire, or water boost your survivability. Lh, sandstorm, mist form and arcane shields are defensive. Signets are just passive boosts you take when you have nothing better to put in the slot, wich is never the case with ele.

If you’re on EU and need help to get into dungeons, pm me.

The active Signet parts, with the traits that keeps the passive effect (Written in Stone) and the trait reduces signet cooldown.
Keeping the passive part also makes using Signet of Restoration more viable.
Signet of Fire is for high Burning dmg.

Again, i am not saying its a good build. I just wanted something different.
That to me seems acceptable for what i wanna do in PvE.

Signets might seem good on paper but in the field I find ’m lacking. I prefer running earthshield by a long shot. But. Signet of Air is a nice stunbreaker, speedboost and aoe blind.

What i meant is, how will signets save you from a difficult situation? If you’re close to being downed, there’s nothing you can do with this build. Get mistform, earth shield, glyph of storms, lightning hammer, arcane shield, and your survivability will go up.

If you’re on EU and need help to get into dungeons, pm me.
