faction choice unfair?
you can use the look of that equipment and put it on something else with power if you like.

I appreciate the encouragement but the point is that I am almost 80 and I my heart on getting a full set when I hit it. Now, all the gold I saved to get the set was pointless. I will have to figure something else out and it was a serious let down.
You aren’t being punished, it’s just a coincidence.
Unless you have an enemy at ANet and they devised this clever trap for you.
Also, there is roughly a bazillion other places to get gear. You’ll probably be alright.
And if you are so determined to look like a Priory member, just use transmutation stones to change the look of the stuff you want to actually use.
Faction gear, while neat looking, is by no means statistically superior to something you can get in the AH for the same or lower price than what you want.
Getting the exact look and stats you want on gear in GW2 is going to require transmutation stones, just save up ~50 silver, trade it for gems, and buy a pack of 5 stones.

Yes your smart remarks and pointless comments will fix the issue that other players may fall victim too. Tell you what, you buy me all the power gear I need for a full set and I will buy the priory gear so I can transmute it. Since you missed the whole point of the post. People shouldn’t be locked into a decision when they don’t have enough info to make the right one.
At least you like the look of the armor for the order you chose …

If you like the look of the gear, get it. Then find the stats you like on something else and T-stone it…

I’m sorry but you are wrong. You did not fall victim to anything. You should be making your choice based on the story and what fits your character’s personality best. If you wanted to pick an order based on gear stats, then you SHOULD have done some research. They aren’t just going to hand you the gear you want, if you are so excited to look like a Priory member, then maybe you should save up for it. I doubt many people will want +healing on their gear, that’s why there is a challenge in it. Anet WANTS people to transmute gear, and find their favorite look. Nobody said it was going to be that easy. Maybe you shouldn’t have rushed your character to 80 without further looking into things yourself.

Faction gear is a PRESTIGE gear, not a USE gear. There’s a reason it’s only rare and not exotic. If you like the looks get an exotic set and transmute the faction gear on it.
I believe you are misinterpreting the idea of gear in this game.
As others have said it is primarily for looks.
That is how it was all intended to work, it’s that simple.
If this answer doesn’t satisfy you, you might want to rethink your approach to the game, this time taking the way it was designed into consideration.
No offense meant.
Does this argument apply to the cultural gear? No, because the game encourages you to buy one piece of every race (look at the achievements) by making 5 chars (they even give you 5 char slots!). 3 faction banners to unlock as well, suggesting that youre meant to play the story at least three times.
And like someone said, the stats on the faction gear arent the best anyway. You gold is better spent elsewhere. Im pretty sure you can craft better armor too
Do like everyone else, craft your exotic end-game gear with the stats you want and transmute the armor set you want over it…?
