I know you get the axe and whatnot from merchants, i am lvl 4 and i have nothing that i can buy for gathering from them.. is there a certain level for it?

No, there’s no level requirement. Only specific merchants sell the gathering tools, along with the salvage kits. They’ll usually have a stack of coins above their heads. Copper tools are the ones you’ll need for your level.

thats what i thought.. i looked it up and im at the right merchant in the forest but she has nothing for me. =( could my game have downloaded wrong? This is saddening me since i love to gather and craft.

Check your starter city – the gathering tools were removed from merchants in very low level areas as part of the September patch, but they’re still in the city and most areas once you get past lvl 10 or so. Crafting merchants in the city (icon like tailor, armoursmith etc) will sell gathering tools and salvage kits, and are often easier to find that the merchants which are actually useful vs those selling beer.

Note that there is a level where the nodes start to show up on your min-map (but the nodes are there before then….you just have to search for them without the mini map assistance).
