Have you tried necromancer? I think it is probably going to give you the best balance of heartiness and damage. They have more health, have a death shroud ability that is like a second health bar, and have minions. Alternately, a shatter build on a mesmer might work for you, but I think it will take more work to learn it. The elementalist does seem really fragile compared to the other scholar classes, though it does seem to make up for it in higher damage and mobility.

hey Genlog,
first off, welcome to Tyria.
Now on the subject, i’m warning you, i’m not that “advanced” a player but i can share you my personal experiences.
I have the feeling that you ask the almost impossible. You want basicly a “cloth armor” class but wanne kick kitten in the world. This is a “mobile” figthing game, meaning that you HAVE to learn dodging, moving around and keep in mind that you will be downleveled to meet the area requirements. So if you are say lvl 35 and you enter a lvl 15 area, you will be lowered to lvl 15. this means that you will allways have a real fight on your hands. No overpowering in low lvl area’s.

So i’m not sure that you will find what you’re looking for in this game. Maybe some off the more experienced players will have a suggestion to help you out, but i would suggest to try it out a bit more and see if you can get the hang off it.

thx for some ansers first off all Enikuo
i love nerco but i seems that his pets compare to the pets is of ranger class is to cry for
you have alot of demon pets but most of them are weak

and ranger pet can do much more and tank good to so you always have some1 with you to help you out even ranger pet can ress you

hello nobby ^^
its not about lvl down i mean i go to a area am say lets say lvl 10
and i go to a lvl where lvl 12 mobs are so they are 2 higher then me

also in the personel story its much harder if you are a few lvls below the recommen
and in that story you get you butt kick hard

last night i try the story street rat for humans you face 2 blade peet and his gang
1 of them is docter howler she a pain in a the butt

i try guardian btw and was 3 lvls lower then they recommen i think am a guardian and can take her

but sadly she kick my butt very hard she shoots poision bullets and her poision wil stay long ad you dunno why but ok she hit hard

compare to 2 blade he is easy
so again i was angry i think even a guardian cant do it

so yea i have trouble with some things maby i cant play GW2 also not good
its my first mmorpg that play difrent then any orther and older mmorpg

Guild Wars 2 takes some getting used to. If you pick a class and play it for a while, eventually I find you get better at it just with practise, and with figuring out what you can do with things. For instance, I’ve got my necromancer to level 25 without using any of the minions at all (and the minions are mostly designed to be blown up in people’s faces, btw!). A character who seems weak at the beginning can develop into something more and more powerful as you add stuff to your build.

That said, you do have to be careful what content you tackle. Although there’s some flexibility, those suggested levels are there for a reason, and especially at the beginning he difference between, say, level 5 and level 8 is HUGE. Try to stay around your own level. Some events can be soloed, some can’t, but your best bet is to find other people – try asking in map chat if anyone wants to come help when an event starts. People will often come.

As for class… staff or sceptre elementalist seems like it would fit your requirements, but it will work better with other people around. Necromancer can be made fairly tough for a scholar class. Once you get past level 10 you can start using traits, which allow you to beef up stats like toughness if you choose to. Trait points actually help a lot.

What server are you on? You might be able to get some company if you need help levelling

Hi Genlog;

First off, there is no real distinction IMHO of magic and non magic in this game. All classes can do melee/range/support. You can play a double dagger wielding necromancer who face pulls or you can play a warrior wielding a longbow who screams like a girl at anything that gets within 10’ and runs away. I don’t mean to belittle your Guild’s feedback, but they spouted drivel. Every class can kick booty in this game, provided you learn its strengths and weaknesses.

You say you don’t like to move around much or dodge but like to kill fast. In my experience, the only class that doesn’t kill fast is the Guardian, but even that class just takes a little more in level count before it too can mow things down very quickly depending on how you specialize. While its true that some classes rely on dodge more than others, recognize that this is what the game has built in as a defense that it expects you to use when the situation arises to do so. If you don’t ever want to use Dodge, that’s your call, but it means you will get your face stomped in at some point when you could’ve avoided doing so. You should also be aware, more and more games are making defense a active part of your decision making, in large part because Gamers complained about how boring it was not having to make such a decision.

You say you don’t like to move around much or dodge, yet called the Ranger boring. If you want to park your feet in one spot and do lots of damage without having to dodge, Ranger is definitely the class of choice. But lets assume you want more burst damage and no pet mechanics to worry about.

Thief, Mesmer or a Elementalist, each is however fragile but do strong damage. Before you dismiss Thief, toss out your preconceived notion of what they are. I admit, the title is misleading, Thief is a very poor name to give that class, Ninja would’ve been more accurate. Each class has range and melee just like every other class, but they have from what I’ve experienced, more burst output than others and that leads to faster kills. The Thief does incorporate Dodge more actively, again, if you got a attitude about using Dodge, then steer shy of the Thief but even the cloth classes must use it from time to time. Also if you don’t like to move around and yet find Ranger boring, you’re in a no win position, you’re going to have to compromise on something somewhere. I don’t personally recommend Necro to you, even if you stay away from pets, they have mechanics that require you be more patient, though of the Light armor types they’re the most sturdy, you are not as burst oriented as the first 3 mentioned. Mesmer will require you to learn how to utilize your illusions and may require a bit more study than Thief or Elementalist.

There is a website called guildwars2guru go there, select the forum of the class you have chosen to play, and then study up on it. I don’t mean to sound like a jerk or be harsh, but if you can’t be bothered to study the particulars of a class, then you’re deciding to remain ignorant and fail at something you could be succeeding at. People have a tendency to leap in and then gripe about how broken something is without bothering to educate themselves even a little bit. My first 3 hours playing GW2 I got my butt handed to me by the game, I then spent 3 hours reading up on the two classes I thought I’d enjoy the most, played the next day and the difference was night and day.

I don’t mean to sound rude, but try and learn to dodge. If you intend to play a squishy mage class, I highly recommend it, as it can save you in sticky situations. If you’re in combat mode, you’ll notice that you run slightly slower. Dodging (rolling as I like to call it) while running away from mobs that can shoot you, gives you that extra distance (if mobs continue to shoot you, you’ll stay in combat mode, therefore you’ll run slower).

With that said, I also recommend the Necro class as others have suggested before me. These are my pros and cons in regards to the class:
Pros
- Decent HP pool
- Lifesteal/Heals
- “Invincible” mode
- Conditions (watching mobs bleed to death lol)
- Minions

Cons
- Minions are weak or highly aggro’d
- Our 1-shot attack isn’t very strong
- Area targetting can be tricky while moving
- “I can outrun a centaur.”
