help - i cant move around using my mouse
By default you will move forward if you press both mouse buttons at once, and you can steer by moving the mouse to one side or the other (depending on your mouse sensitivity setting). If you have extra buttons, eg on a HEX, you can map the arrows to the keys.
There is no click to move. There isn’t any sort of autopathing in general. Probably to take some load off the servers since path finding can be somewhat computationally expensive and it wouldn’t work that well for GW2’s combat system anyway.
Autorun is still in though since that is just going in a straight line until you hit an obstacle.
Yup, there is no click to move in GW2, basically for the reasons Khisanth listed above – mostly the combat.
Pressing the R key on your keyboard will make you run automatically though, and then you can just use the right mouse button to steer your character.
Alternatively hold down the left and right mouse buttons simultaneously to run forwards.
OP, you and I are in the same boat. Back then it wasn’t required for people to move by mouse-looking and WASD, and to be fair, even now it’s still only an option. But as far as MMO’s go, it’s more the standard, not an option.
My option is the less-popular one, to move around by using arrow keys. Check my signature. In PvE this isn’t so bad, but when it comes to more competitive stuff like sPvP and WvW, then it makes a difference. Personally I can’t get the hang of mouse-looking and WASD controls; it was hard enough to get used to in Skyrim and I’m just glad that GW2 is a bit more flexible in this regard.

WASD functions exactly the same as the arrow keys, it’s just in a better position.
If left and right are strafe rather than turn, you can make WASD the same by swapping the keybind of A and D with the keybind of Q and E.
But yeah, mouse walking tends to be an Asian MMO thing, most western games have moved away from it. Actually MMO’s in general have moved away from it because action based combat has become a lot more desirable and mouse movement does not work with action combat.
I always used click to move in GW1 as well, because I was used to single-player RPGs where that was often the best/only option (specifically the various DnD games with a top-down view).
It was hard to get used to GW2 at first, but once I discovered you could move by holding down both mouse buttons it wasn’t too bad.
Although when going long distances I now switch on auto-run and a right click toggle I put on my mouse, so it works just like holding both buttons down but without hurting my hand from holding them down.
Remember you can also re-bind any of the controls, so if you find the default layout is awkward for you then you can move some/all of it around to find something that does suit you.

If using a keyboard, ESDF > WASD in terms of useable keys, though programmable gaming keypads give the best utility. If you have to learn keyboard control anyway use ESDF from the start – the main reason people are stuck with WASD is they’re already too used to it.

Depends on the keyboard too and I guess hand size. On mine that leaves my left pinky in the groove between the shift and A key. It would also shift the weapon skills one finger over. With WASD using the middle and index fingers for 2 and 3 are quite comfortable. With ESDF trying to reach 2 with the ring finger is a bit of a stretch.
If you seriously want to compete in PvP situations you need to learn to use mouse-turning. The keys are way too slow to turn your character although you can use the strafe movement keys.
With practice it feels completely natural.
Personally, I don’t have the left/right turn keys or the backpedal key bound at all. I never use them. My strafe keys and forward are bound to my naga thumbpad keys. All movement is then done with the right hand and the entire keyboard is free for weapon skills.
(I even have a couple of foot switches for targeting purposes )
Switching for a click-to-move game to a WASD movement game throws me off every time
Especially now when I’m playing Diablo 3 again in anticipation of their next expansion. Coming back to GW2 after a D3 session feels really weird. Feels natural again after a few rounds in sPvP though.

Hi, Im new to guildwar 2 and I cant seem to move around using my mouse, I can only move using arrows. In guildwar 1 I was able to set movement using mouse but I don’t know how to do it in GW2. Please Help TYVM
And I am exactly the opposite – I can only use the mouse to move – I’ve tried the keyboard WASD – never been able in 20+ years to get the hang of it…
I am glad there is still mouse control.
