Q:
help to pick best melee profession?
A:
Those aren’t the only Melee professions.
Warrior: Probably the most played class. High DPS, strong, large health pool, decent mobility, but also very ‘samey’ and they get old very fast in my opinion.
Thief: The hardest to play very well of the Melee classes (along with Spirit Ranger), they are very squishy but have the highest single-target DPS in the game. This class is more PvP oriented.
Guardian: My personal favourite Melee class. Like Warrior, just less offence-oriented and more defence-oriented. Great damage mitigation and good DPS too, but not as high as Warriors.
Ranger: Melee Rangers are surprisingly good despite the name. People refer to them as Spirit Rangers and they’re not that popular, but they’re very strong when played well.
You’re asking for the ‘best’, but there isn’t one. Sorry about that.
For you? Go for Warrior. It’s simple and easy.

Warrior
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Warrior, Guardian, D/D Elementalist, Thief (sort of) can all get in close and do damage.
Warrior is the most straightforward in-your-face profession.
If there was one class that was ‘best’ we’d all be playing it
Best? Grenadier!
While everyone else is limited to 3 or 5 targets a Grenadier can hit 15. Bigger number obviously means better!!! :P

Other than the fact that the 1500 range grenadier is far from melee.
Really the guardian is the easier melee so solo just because they have so many mechanics to keep them alive. Though the warrior definitely can go through things faster alone when played by a skilled player.
Thief are in an interesting position because stealth plays into one of humans biggest fears, knowing something of danger is there but you are unable to see it, which makes it a constant argument of whether they are balanced in pvp which means they rarely get the buffs they need to keep up in other places in the game and also give them a higher player awareness cap.
More numbers doesn’t necessarily mean bigger numbers But also the grenadier spec that I thought was popular depended on you being > 600 range (not melee) for highest dps.
For PvE:
- Warrior is probably the easiest class to learn the game on – you can dish out a lot of damage fast in melee (use axe/mace for your main weapons and swap out other weapons to get a feel for them) but have a large health pool to soak up hits that you don’t dodge or otherwise mitigate.
- Guardian is another good choice when learning because they have a lot of active defense skills such as tons of blinds (sword/focus), mob control (hammer, GS), temporary invulnerability, and some projectile absorption and reflection. But if you run out of active defense skills, you will probably die quickly.
- Thief can kill stuff stupid fast, but it is much less forgiving than the two heavy classes. Same goes for elementalist, though in min-max PvE settings it’s more likely to fall behind in pure DPS unless you’re really mindful. But both are really fun to play!
- Sword/warhorn ranger is another fun option, but very hard to master because of how awkward it is to fit dodges into your rotation.
With different weapon, armor, and traits, all five classes (maybe less so with ranger) can also do some serious damage in melee in WvW. All five classes also have viable specs in PvP, again, though ranger has some strong ranged builds as well.
