hey am new to guild wars
today I upgraded to heart of thorns and ended up getting sent to a place called silverwastes prior to that I was at divinities reach completing th floating grizwhirl chapter of my characters personal story
m y issue is that I cant figure out h ow to leave silverwaste and return to divinitys reach

tricky since we don’t have a visual on your situation.
I think the issue is that you activated the HoT story and therefore cannot see the green arrow pointing at the person story anymore?
in that case, you should open the hero page; and then go to story journal and reactivate the personal story.
As for how to leave the silverwastes: there is a portal in the camp leading to fort vandal in the maguuma jungle. Another option would be to look for a waypoint on the map.
If this endeavor is unsuccesful I will ask you to take a screenshot so we have more details of your issue

My guess is the OP probably used the Level 80 Boost – that takes you to the Silverwastes so you can try it out in a level 80 map, and it leaves you there when you use it permanently.

How to get back

Option 1: Quick but costs some silver
1) Open your map and find Divinity’s Reach. It’s slightly to the left of and above the middle.
2) Zoom in on it.
3) You should see several blue diamonds with brown borders – waypoints. Click on any of them. It will ask if you want to teleport there and tell you the cost (about 2s 30-50c).
4) Click accept.

Option 2: Free but potentially confusing & reveals a new area early
1) Find the PvP icon at the top right of the screen (crossed swords)
2) Click it and select ‘Enter PvP Lobby’ on the menu.
3) When the map loads you’ll see a pink swirly portal right in front of you. Run into it.
4) That will bring you to Lion’s Arch. If it’s the first time you’ve been there (and I assume it is) you’ll be shown a cut scene of the city, then find yourself standing on a road with some palms and a glowy thing on your left.
5) Run past the glowy thing (Mystic Forge) and the building shaped like an octopus (bank) and look for an archway with a house on top.
6) Go through there and you’ll see 6 pink swirly portals (asura gates).
7) Go through the one on your left with two Seraph standing next to it.

Option 3: Free but takes a long time & reveals several new maps
1) Open your Hero Panel and go to the Story Journal (star shaped button on the left side)
2) Click where it says My Story and select 2. Shadows of the Past.
3) Click the button saying resume or something like that (I can’t check the exact text)
4) Make sure a green star has appeared on your map
5) Run towards it. You’ll have to go out of the Silverwastes, across Brisban Wildlands and depending on how far through the story you got either across part of Kessex Hills or across all of it and into Queensdale or Divinity’s Reach but the star will show you where to go.

For future reference any of these options can take you to anywhere you want to go. You’ll unlock waypoints as you explore the world and then you can teleport to any of them from anywhere in the world. You can also get to the PvP Lobby (aka The Heart of the Mists) from anywhere in the world and then to Lion’s Arch which has gates leading to all the major cities. And of course you can run from where you are to almost anywhere you need to go. There are some maps which aren’t accessible that way but they’re rare.

If you have permanently accepted the L80 Boost on your character, I would strongly suggest you park that character (for now), and create a new one. You would be better off, as a new player, to level a character naturally, so you can take advantage of all the tutorial tips given at each level-up, and get the rewards.

when I upgraded t o thorns I automatically figured upgrading was a good idea perhaps s I will create a new character though :s
