Guild Wars 2

A friend of mine sent me a copy of Guild Wars 2, as a gift via Amazon. He and several other friends are already playing GW2 on the Crystal Desert server. During the past 18 hours I have tried several times to create a character there. It always tells me the server is full. The last time I tried was about 6:10am Eastern time, and I even got up at 3:15am for my first try today. No luck.

Is there a trick that will allow friends to play together, or am I just out of luck?

There are several ways to accomplish this, none of which is ultimate as being on the same server as him.

1. wait till level 30, when you can do dungeons, and join his group. If both of you are on the same map, you both will get in the instance.
2. wait till the game has the guesting feature implemented. However, this wait may be as long as the time it’ll take you to level 5 chars to level 80.
3. get in and out of LA till you both are on the same overflow, not that it will give any benefit outside LA.

What I would do if I were you, at least at the time being is one of these 2 options:

1. start you character on another server, and check periodically for availability in his server.
2. as him to move to your server with his friends/guild. While transfers are still free, this may work.

Also, look for off hour times. 6am may seem that it is off hours, but it really depends on the make up of the server (where is the predominate player base is located and what type of server it is, i.e. pve or pvp). I would also recommend making a character and check back with the servers throughout the day and especially late at night.

Take stock that once you get in to the server, it will be a full of players and you shouldn’t have that alone feeling as you wander through Tyria. Keep trying and don’t give up hope! You will be in before you know it!

This doesn’t make sense. Are active players keeping the servers full 24 hours a day, or is something else going on? Could botting by hundreds of folks take up space from folks who actually want to play?

It is frustrating.

The quickest way to get a solution would be for your friends to server-transfer to a less-often full server with you.

We have players all around the globe, and players with all sorts of different play hours. How many of them bot, who knows, doesn’t matter. The point is you’re not getting in.

Last week would have been the time to get on C.D. The servers are fuller this week than last, and the developers relaxed the capacity constraints during the special event.

Later in December we’re sure to have another event. Perhaps that would be a good time to transfer to meet up with your friend.

The server status is dynamic, they do change throughout the day depending on how many people are logged on. Just keep checking, late at night & early in the morning are best times to check on Full servers.

Bots are really not an issue, ANet took a hard stance and has eradicated most of them

sever down time for this game is realy short as all thay have to do is a quick restart. so you would be hard pressed to hit the right time that said i think its at 12 PSt every munday

I’m not sure if they have a set time to roll out new builds, I haven’t seen anything like a regular schedule for it. Underdog is right though, there is no downtime for a new build, you just relog and get the patch.

Update: I finally made it onto the Crystal Desert (CD) server!

It was about 7:30 Eastern time this morning. My first try today was at 4:20am, and CD was at the top of the list of full servers. That is a big improvement from what I normally saw, with CD being at or near the bottom. So with that encouragement I kept trying every 20-45 minutes.
