this game is almost perfect but the AP system is very dangerous for me. i been playing since pre launch but only got 3k ap cus i have trouble playing consisntely, i have PTSD and the daily systemt gives me a lot of distress because its so competitive and people are just counting seconds all day for 7pm CST and then its just a all our rush to get as much AP as you can and in the end of the day its just a kittening contest.

but i get lotta anxiety with the WVW dailies cus u cant always control how many player kills u get and where the hell do i find a caravan and stupid get 2 ranks, and pvp i HATE pvp but i make myself do it for the 2 ap points and i just cant take it anymore i just want to overdose on all my meds right now!

how many dailies do u do? if u just do 5 for daily is that enough or will u fall behind in AP? most people have 20k+ ap so should i just find another game since i missed out on so much?

its really frustrating cus not only do you have to manage your AP then you got map completion and all kinds of guild crap to deal with too.

It took me a while but I make it a point to do my dailies as diligently as humanly possible. Though accomplishing these dailies is actually easier to do in WvW, especially if you go on edge of the mists so long as you got the movement speed to keep up with the zerg you follow.

I am not sure why you are so concerned about getting as much AP as possible though unless you aim to have your name be placed on the leaderboards.

APs can be a tough thing for those of us who like completionism. I say, do what makes you happy and try not to worry about anyone else. I know that’s easier said and done. For a long while I tried to do all dailies, but once WvW and sPvP ones got added in, I stopped. And the past few months I’ve missed a fair few dailies altogether. Sometimes I think of those I missed or how much points the WvW/sPvP ones add up to each month.. but.. one can really burn themselves out. I’d rather take breaks than end up really hating the game altogether.

In the end, APs honestly don’t mean a darn thing. Seriously.. they mean nothing aside from time sank into the game. So just try to do what you want and don’t worry about anyone else.

The first and most important thing to know about AP is that it doesn’t really mean anything. You can get some nice skins and sometimes useful items but that’s it. The vast majority of players do not care how many points you have, and most of the ones who do have very low requirements (like 5k). Anyone asking for more than that is being an idiot because it doesn’t tell them anything about your abilities.

Secondly most people do not have over 20k AP. Very, very few people have that much. Most long-term players seem to be between 5k and 10k, maybe as high as 15k.

There are a very small number of extremely competitive AP grinders who have extremely high points and will try to do all the dailies every single day. But unless you want to be on top of the leader board (which means nothing) or enjoy the challenge of doing that then there is no reason for you to join them.

The vast majority of players will just do 5 dailies for the rewards. Maybe they’ll get others afterwards if they keep playing (I think I’ve gotten 8 sometimes on a weekend) but for most people there is no reason to do more than 5.

Even then you don’t need to do it every single day. If you miss a day all you really lose out on is a laurel.

Also there is a cap on how many AP you can get from dailies and from monthlies, although these caps are quite high.

If you want more AP you can also get them from completing other achievements such as jumping puzzles, personal story steps, living story achievements, etc.

Let’s be honest here, you will never catch up to those in the lead. The system doesn’t allow for it. It’s a terrible leaderboard with no actual competition to it. Those in the lead, are obsessing over it, so they’ll do every single Daily and Monthly. But for what? To be on some leaderboard that means nothing since there’s no actual competition? You can’t lose out on AP. If you’re in the lead, you can maintain it perfectly fine. The whole existence is pointless.

And the rewards.. are rather.. well like in every other part of the game, meager. I guess the armor skins are that tiny bit more interesting now that there’s a full set to get, but the weapon skins.. ugh, they are disgustingly ugly. I mean no offense to those who may like them, but I find them hideous. Other than that, I get a few stats, which has no effect on the game experience. I’ll go around with my friend who has 40% Magic Find, with myself being at 250%, and she’ll get all the good stuff, all the time, and I never get anything good (or need to grind for hours to get the same stuff she gets multiple drops of within 30 minutes). So much for that stat having any effect. It’s not like it works on chests either, which is what most rewards are contained in.

So yeah, at some point I realized the AP are pointless. I do the achievements for doing the achievements. I do my Daily by playing, but don’t focus on any aspect of it, I just make sure it’s done at the end of the day, since Laurels are at least.. semi-useful. That’s about it. I’d stop obsessing over having the most points, unless the person in the lead quits, they are going to keep that lead. The numbers only go up, never down.

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable! If you are feeling discomfort over this then figure out where your discomfort lies and address that by adjusting your expectations to be more in line with what you are comfortable doing.

Dailies, to me, aren’t that big of a deal. I find if I play an hour or two a day they ding. I might have to shift focus for a few minutes to finish one or two, but for the most part I just get the ding and move on.

I just absently play the game after reset and get all 5 dailies done about an hour later.

This. If you seriously feel anxiety over this issue, you DO need to seek some professional help….now.

I’m not sure WHO you are playing with or talking to that has made you feel AP actually MEANS anything and is “competitive”? My AP management consists of looking at it when I go into the AP menu and thinking., “…oh, a bit closer to the next chest….interesting.”.

No need, OP, to stress out over this, as well as compare your AP to anyone’s. AP. The total amount any given player has is meaningless, also I really don’t think most players have 20K. Personally, I just do the 5 for the daily so I can get my laurel, trading for a T-6 bag of crafting materials, but if I don’t it’s no big deal. As others have said, I can’t think of a single guildie that has over 10k, and I’ve been with this guild for a year and a half. Currently I’m at 9.6k after 6k hours of play and only want to get the 10k chest for the gems <smile>

I tend to get all the non-PvP/WvW ones done in a 1 1/2 to 2 hour play session without focusing on doing them. A couple of boss meta-events usually take care of the event requirement. The Kills one happens on it’s own, including vets and champs. I tend to play a bit in all four regions so that usually covers kills in a specific zone. Conditional damage is handled by my abilities during all those kills. I admit I can’t get skill interrupter except by accident. Always do a jump puzzle or two every night. Other than burning a skill point scroll to get to three and remembering to visit the Laurel Vendor if that’s out, they simply happen during normal play.

At least for me.

If I have ~20-30min to play I focus on 5 dailies to get the laurel. If I happen to be close to a 6th daily then I’ll go for it. If I have ~1hr to play I typically go for 8 dailies. If I have 2hrs to play, I usually do WvW exclusively and that will typically get you 6-8 dailies just through normal play.

Daily Gatherer is always on there, so that should be a no brainer. There are some WPs where you can knock out daily gatherer in about 1min (Halvaunt WP in Wayfarer Foothills for example (NW section)).

Daily Kills is a pretty common one to rotate in, so if you are in a time crunch, go to a low level zone and just mow through everything you see. Even better if there is both Daily Kills and <region> Killer dailies. Just go to whatever region it says and you can pretty much knock out two with one stone. Same goes for Underwater Kills. There’s no reason to kill more than you need to, so if Underwater and Daily Kills are there, do most of your killing underwater. Lowest zone possible. Any daily requiring kills (veterans, champions, etc.) should either be done in a 1-15 zone or just hit up the EoTM train.

Which segues perfectly into Daily Events, which is another one that is usually up there. EoTM will have you finish that real fast, plus if daily veteran or champion is up, that will be completed while you run the train. Also if WvW Defender, WvW Camp/Tower Capturer is one, then that likely will be completed during your train as well. Daily Leveler is easy in EoTM as well since you get so much XP from events you will level several times in an hour.

Karma Spender is obvious enough, find nearest heart quest vendor (must be a completed heart of course) and just buy stuff.

Finally there’s PvP. Play 3 matches and you will be 99% guaranteed to finish any PvP dailies. If the PvP dailies are only daily captures and kills, then that could be done in just one match, but that is never guaranteed.

Once you get a good feel for where to go to for each category, the base daily (5 categories) is doable in ~20min, with 8-10 categories doable in 1hr.

Hope this helps!

I generally only set out to do 5 just for the daily chest. But I will often end up doing another one or two more just through my normal play anyway, unless its a set of dailies that are all very specific. I’m not too bothered by AP that I feel the need to do them all (plus, I don’t do dungeons / PvP / WvW so I couldn’t do them all even if I wanted to without going far out of my way).

As for what YOU should do… well that’s something you need to decide for yourself.

Also, I highly doubt most players have 20k AP. I’d say the average is probably around or below 10k, honestly. I mean, I guess the leaderboards are filled with 20kAP players, but that’s the point, they’re the leaders in the category, not the norm.

5-6 dailies and most days I don’t even bother with any (though I still get like 2-3 even without trying). Dailies are easy though, I dunno how you get anxiety over them.. the ones I get without even trying are Leveler, Daily Dodger, Skill Interrupter, Daily Kills, Recycler etc. I have about 7k AP atm and little less than 2k of those are from doing dailies. I didn’t even start at launch either, and it seems there was 4-5 month period when I didn’t earn any dailies at all (too lazy I guess xD)…so don’t worry too much about it.

I wouldn’t say AP is pointless either.. it’s like legendaries, you get them for the prestige or to show off. I always respect people with high AP, and don’t pay much attention to those with really low AP. Also, despite what others think there is a strong correlation between AP and player skill/knowledge (not too high, or low).

I said the leaderboards are pointless in what you quoted, so again, obsessing over your AP is rather silly. It’s not a competition and never will be. The people in the top for EU/NA over on https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/achievements, will never lose their lead, unless they stop caring about it. It’s not possible to compete for a spot on the top of that leaderboard, since you can’t lose AP. There’s no win:loss ratio to go by here, just gains and more gains.

I’ve also seen players with well over 15k AP be absolutely terrible at this game. It doesn’t take much effort to get high numbers while not understanding the game, professions and mechanics. These people couldn’t make a build on their own if their life depended on it even. The game is rather easy and it’s easy to be carried. I would never look at someones AP to try relate it to skill/knowledge. I’d figure that out from how they play. Sure, if you got a very low number, chances are you might be a new player, which is awesome, I love new players, but it’s not a given. It could just be a player on a second account who has full understanding of every aspect of the game.

I misquoted and saw that you were talking about leaderboards, but you did say somewhere in your post that AP was pointless (which I don’t agree with). I know that people with 15k AP or higher can be bad at this game, especially if they get most of their achievs from something like sPvP and do dungeons for the first time. Usually people with AP in the mid range are more skilled than those with too low or high AP (mid is between 4k-12k AP I would say). This is something I notice in PvE for harder content like Arah where too low or high AP players usually wipe a lot, but those with decent AP are better skilled and experienced.

Personally I usually pick the 5 quickest ones and do them, just enough to get the rewards. I usually leave enough unsalvaged gear/stuff in a character before logging off so I can do daily salvager quickly when logging on, head off to pagga’s waypoint to salvage the trees nearby (specially the statue with all the trees around it) for daily gatherer (and sell any foxfire clusters I get), then see which other three ones I can do quickly. Usually whichever character I end up playing that night is the one that makes it easier to do the achievements.

For the other ones I usually do, if it’s daily dodger I head off to southsun to kill young karka, they always do several ranged attacks for their first attack, doging twice can give you up to 33% of the achievement, if it’s condition cleanser, I get out my necro and use blood is power (gives me 2 stacks of bleed) followed by skill 4 on staff or offhand dagger that transfer conditions to enemy, and healing to cleanse any extra conditions I might get, ambient killer, I take my flamethrower engineer or guardian with staff to godlost swamp and run around the wooden path that surrounds it spamming 1, killing all ambient creatures I come across, it’s usually done before I get to the end, if it’s daily interrupter, I take out my thief and spam headshots (offhand pistol 4), daily puzzle jumper I’ll either go to southsun and do “Under New Management” or “Shaman’s Rookery” in wayfarer foothills, for Dungeon Completer a run of CoF P1 is the easiest and fastest.

If I still need some extra to finish the daily, I usually log into my elementalist (still not 80) and head to the EotM karma train for daily events and leveler (or consume 3 skill scrolls for daily skills).

Any extra daily achievement I might get after that by just playing I consider as just a bonus.

In short, don’t stress about it. There’s a limit to how much the AP hunters can gain from Dailies, and if you’re here for the long term, you’ll likely catch up to us sooner or later.

I’ve never had an issue with someone with too high AP being bad. Maybe I’ve been luck. In fact, one of my normal dungeon/FoTM run groups I have the lowest AP (14k) and I can honestly say there is no content that we don’t faceroll through.

For things like FoTM30+ anyone under 7k AP I get a bit worried they won’t be able to hold their own. In some cases I’m pleasantly surprised. In others my fears become realized. But, the majority of players doing FoTM30+ will have at least 7k AP, so it rarely comes up, if ever.

All that matters at the end of the play session is, was it fun? If it was, I’ll come back to play again.

This is what I do too.

Some days I get it without even trying, some days I realise I’m close and I’ll go out of my way to get the last bit done, some days I play for hours and I’m still not close because I happen to have been doing different things that day. But it doesn’t matter, if I don’t get it that day I’ll get it another day.

This is exactly the way I’m handling my dailies, too. So what if I miss out on dailies occasionally (and its a rare day when I don’t get to finish my dailies naturally through 1-2 hours of normal play), I’ve got way more laurels than I would ever need anyway.

I do all 12 Dailies every day, but I’m only doing so to reach the 10k Daily cap sooner rather than later. (I’m currently up to 7.3k, I believe.) As soon as I hit that cap, I’ll be scaling back my Daily hunting to just 5 for the Laurel.

In short, don’t stress about it. There’s a limit to how much the AP hunters can gain from Dailies, and if you’re here for the long term, you’ll likely catch up to us sooner or later.

I’m just curious as to why you think getting to the 10K Daily cap ASAP is important? I get if you are actually TRYING to maximize your AP on a regular basis, but as far as I know, there is no “reward” for reaching the 10K cap…..why hitting it ASAP something you feel the need to pursue?

Same here. I’m at 8.3k from dailies, so I’d like to finish off that 10k and not have to worry about it anymore.

Brother Grimm, I’ve been climbing the AP leaderboards, and doing the dailies is required to stay ahead. Once you reach the cap, you can manage your play time around your own time more easily. I’ll admit it doesn’t make perfect sense, but it’s more of a mentality thing.

If some of the dailies gives stress, so don’t do them. (the WVW ones )
Do the easy ones for the laurel and that is ok. and if you don’t feel like doing dailies, skip them.

Follow your heart and your dreams won’t be far behind.

Do as many as you feel like, dude.
I do a few here and there, some days I finish 5, sometimes I get more, sometimes I get less.
There is no contest if you remember everyone plays at their own speed.
I’ve been playing since launch as well, I’ve been less than 100 points from my 5,000 chest for a month now. I’m in no hurry, and you don’t need to be either.

I play Fort Aspenwood, I lead the 8 member guild, Sacred Storm [Strm] I am Jason Goes Mental.
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.

This.
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted but you got me to jump in here. First of all, dailies are usually pretty easy to do and completing most of them takes about an hour. Second, ALWAYS aim for 5. The extra karma, luck, silver, laurels, mystic coins, and maybe some extra goodies will add up fast and aid you in your AP hunt.

Being a player who has over 20k AP, I can tell you this is not the norm or something you should sink your worry into very much. AP will help unlock new skins, account boosts, and different titles. I am also not one of the top competitors on the AP leader boards but have found myself in the top 1000 easy. All I do is play every day and complete some dailies then move on to other things the game offers. I have not maxed out my daily or monthly AP yet either.

So how can you amass AP quickly? Play everything. PvP, WvW, and PvE all have AP tied with them. In about a year you should have about 10k AP for at least the first 2years of play. Dailies max out at 10k AP and monthlies max out at 5k AP. Finish map completion too, then, above all else, learn everything you can about the game. The top AP boards have some of the best players because efficiency is key to staying up there. How to farm, how to beat dungeons quickly, how to be in a zerg, how and when to sell items for a good price, how to run those high level fractals, how to play well in PvP, and how to make friends with really good players are some of those elements these AP hunters have.

The “AP doesn’t mean anything” and “leader boards don’t mean anything” are poor attitudes to those players who don’t want them to mean anything. But as you can see, they do mean something to a large group of players and we’ll happily have you along for the ride. Play as you will BUT HAVE FUN!

I wouldn’t say it’s “important”, but it’s a handy carrot to keep me doing multiple aspects of the game. I’m also working on PvP and WvW progression along with PvE, and the Dailies are just a nice way of pacing myself. “OK, I got my PvP dailies. That’s enough progress on it today.”

The fact that Dungeon players use it as a gauge of overall experience in the game does not mean it actually means anything in terms of player skill, ability or knowledge. Yes, having 5K AP makes it much more likely that the player is more aware of things than someone with 1K AP, but neither is a good measure of how good a player they are.

I would associate the word “shallow” to anyone that actually uses an AP number to judge an actual player (other than to prove they have been playing the game for some time).
