Q:
how much does gw1 cost?
Would it be approx $50 to buy the trilogy (origin game, factions and nightfall) for 30 and then 20 for eye of the north? Would that be about right? (Im only going for this for the lore behind it
$50US from NCSoft’s store or Steam.
By shopping around, you can piecemeal it cheaper, but make sure wherever you buy it from is reputable and selling new copies.
There was a physical only complete collection (all three games plus the expansion) that will run you around $30, but it is getting hard to find.
Watch steam for sales, I picked up all 3 (prophesies, factions, nightfall) + EotN for under 30$
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Also do you have to get eye of the north to get hall of monuments stuff? Im more interested in story but i want to get something out of it for gw2 also

Yeah, EotN actually introduced the Hall of Monuments. You need it for GW2 stuff.
Is it worth a try to get achievements from the Hall of Monuments? I presume, the population in GW1 is really low now and it can be really hard to grind achievements for GW2 through it. According to wiki you also need pvp titles for full achievement points. But with almost dead population it may be impossible to grind pvp titles.
You don’t have to play with others to get the HOM points. You’ll have heroes and henchman that you can use to help you. But the GW1 population is still pretty active, just so you know, both for “roleplaying” characters and PvP characters.

If you want the AP or rewards then yes.
You can do almost everything in GW1 solo now if you use heroes.
While nearly everything in PvE can be solo’ed with heroes and/or henchmen, some missions are much easier with a second person. It’s also more fun to make the journey with a friend.
30 HoM points for all the GW2 skins, minis, and ranger pets is definitely manageable alone. It’s hard to give an exact time estimate, but 300-500 hours starting from scratch should get you 30. Just make sure to milk festivals for coin.
A PvP title is needed for full 50/50, but one of the PvP titles is for using 200 Zaishen Keys. Z-Keys can be earned by doing simulated PvP (turn in Balthazar faction, per-day limit); doing Zaishen Vanquish, Bounty, and Mission daily quests (turn in your copper coins for silver coins, then gold coins, then keys); or doing one of the actual PvP matches like Jade Quarry. They can also be bought from other players.
I can only encourage you to get a friend or two to buy the game along with you and play it together – entirely different playstyle, but it is loads of fun alone and even more so with other players. I took seven of my guildies last summer, and we got together one weekend to play the Prophecies Campaign together in one sitting – so much nostalgia and so much fun!

If you plan to go ranger, definitely, because there’s some unique pets you can only get from there, even though it’s mainly just aesthetic purposes, it will show you liked the GW series as a whole. I have half a mind to get GW1 as well.
