When i first started playing gw2, i’ ve picked an elementalist and find it kinda boring. And stopped playing gw2 almost a year mostly because of my old laptop, so when that’ s being changed i wanted to try this game again and picked a thief. I find it so much fun, she is lvl 80.
Then i read if i want to do more real stuff like pvp, dungeons etc they are not that good and not welcomed. So i decided give it a try to others like necro, mesmer, guardian, warrior, rev. I really enjoyed playing rev and necro. Everytime i enjoy playing a proffession and feel like it could be my other main i like reading about them on forums or watch videos. And every single time people saying bad things about them. It feels like every profession sucks lol.
I was almost sure about my necro then looked and saw the topic named ’ why is necro so bad’ . And it immediatly made me think it wouldn’t worth it.

That is why i feel lost, for two weeks now i keep trying another profession and starting all over again after feeling discouraged.
I am sure even it is a hard profession to master but eventually it won’ t suck and people will accept me to their groups, i can master anything.
So i need suggestions to pick a profession. I am done with trying on my own.

One suggestion would be not to listen to what others say on the forums, especially when each group says every single other Profession is bad. Choose something you enjoy, and make your own groups for content.

Good luck.

If you believe the forums every single profession was useless (or broken) when the game was released and has gotten worse with every update. Honestly it’s amazing any of us are able to kill a rabbit, never mind actual enemies.

But if you look at any other games forum you’ll see exactly the same thing. That’s just the nature of forums, people who are enjoying the game tend to get on with playing instead of coming here to post about it, so on the forum you get people who are unhappy about something and people who can’t log in right now. (And the odd person like me who is lying to themselves that visiting the forum is a less bad form of procrastination than playing the game.)

But in my experience only a minority of people actually care enough about having a ‘perfect’ team that they’d exclude you from their group for playing the wrong profession or build or whatever. In most cases it really doesn’t matter, especially for dungeons.

My main character has been a ranger since day 1. There was a time when the rule on the forum was “no rangers in dungeons”, some groups would literally kick you the instant they saw your profession and refuse to allow you back in even if you said you were going to switch to another character.

But even then I never had trouble finding a group to do dungeons with (or completing dungeons). I played with my guilds, or I put my own message in the LFG window saying something like “casual run, everyone welcome” and it’d fill up fairly quickly.

Personally I think it’s far more important to play something you enjoy than to play something someone else has decided is good enough to meet their personal standards. If I was forced to play a profession I find boring I just wouldn’t play, I’d think about logging into GW2, remember how boring I found my character and play something I enjoy instead.

Stop swaying to forums and public opinion. In any game with class richness like GW2, everyone will say others suck. these dudes properly played their counter class and tried it for a couple of hours and gave a forum review..
Find what you think is fun and stick with it. If you keep going like this you will never enjoy a mmo..
I played a ranger all my gw2 life, and level others for fun, but left after hitting 80 and giving them a little equipment. Tho rangers have always had a position in the middle I have stuck with it, at times boring and in thrilling times. Now I am looking forward to new adventures as a Druid. Its sticking to one thing, I think you should do it with what ever u think is fun, And own it, there is always room for improvement.

And if you sway in between classes this often, sounds like you never gain mastery of any class, so you don’t really know what your talking about. no offense.
Other classes will always talk trash about each other, don’t let it effect the fun you can have.

Don’t listen to the others. What you feel comfortable playing with, is one you should stick to. The whole “min-max” spiele does tend to create a lot of garbage. I do great with my scrapper, even if I fumble with some things; my reaper doesn’t use a greatsword, but being able to hit max life force for shroud faster makes up for it.

People have their way of playing their characters. Don’t feel coerced to play their style. Because, in all honesty, it really isn’t fun if it isn’t yourself.

Well i always thought people actually know a lot and i don’ t that’ s why i take very seriously reading forums.
Your comments made me think and realize at the end of the day i have to play for fun not to be the best. So thank you again, i will be getting better with my necro and enjoy the game.

It’s a game. Why play games if not for entertainment and enjoyment? I think you’ve made a great choice.

Good luck. =)

I’m pretty new to gw2 but not to MMOs. There’s something called FOTM or flavor of the month which is usually an overtuned or overpowered class/spec that everyone seems to sheep to and if your class feels undertuned compared to that or out of the meta it’s easy to complain and feel discouraged because you re too busy worrying about what you don’t have instead of adapting and making what you do have work. Thing is you could flock to what’s op FOTM but next month things may change and it may be someone else’s turn to be overtuned. Believe it or not there’s a lot of people who will swap classes based on relevance – that’s just how they enjoy the game and that’s fine but they are usually the number one culprits for complaining

Good players are going to be good at their class and magnify what they can do with it because they know it well and have done the theory crafting it takes to make things work throughout both ups and downs. It’s frustrating sometimes sure but updates and changes are part of the game sometimes

From a newbie to you my suggestion is to find the professions you enjoy the most and stick with it and learn to be the best at that profession as you can be. For a lot of MMO players that’s the game right there. Growing with your character and being stronger as a player as you level and help your character get stronger as well in game.

I’ve been playing Mesmer less than 2 months, have never been really good at these type of games and felt the same way. I would sign in, make a plan and usually die A LOT and not succeed. Then some fellow players on facebook gave me some advice. “It’s a game. Relax and enjoy.”, “Set goals but do other stuff on your way.” , “Don’t be afraid to experiment with the class you like.”, “Make an alt for when Mesmer is becoming tedious.” etc.

Last night’s Daily PvEs were a good example. I decided to try to get to the Cursed Shores (where I have never been) and do four events. I told myself that after I die five or ten times, I would try something different. Along the way I got several Waypoints, Points of Interest, Vistas and Hero Points. After dying three times, I finally got to Cursed Shores two hours after I started. There were so many groups that it was easy to complete events.

I went back to LA, emptied my bags and prepared for the three Maguuma Dailies (I call it washing up). It wasn’t until I was in Auric Basin that I realized that I once again confused my Maguumas (Jungle, Wastes and Heart of). LOL I made several Hero Points and almost got a Mastery Point. I easily finished the Maguuma Wastes Vista in Silver Wastes and The Maguuma Jungle Miner in Metrica Province once I realized I was in the wrong area for two of the events (never did find a rifle range).

My point is, play whatever sounds like fun or looks cool. I really enjoy Mesmer but occasionally play a Necro and want to one day try Guardian. Like yourself, I watch videos and read to see what looks fun. Mesmer is more fun at higher levels but I did a lot of mapping while getting there (still do).
