I was hearing the same thing when i was going to buy the game also(a month and a half ago) and had the same worries. But the game seems to be in full swing still, just seeing some people who have played since launch arnt all OMG BEST GAME EVER but still love it and continue to play.
thats nice to hear . im currently downloading the game and even at 210 mb its not even 1% just whats the size of this total download ??
About 21.6 Gb I feel sorry for you :S
kitten !!……..
Welcome to the land of kittens.
Also, MMO forums are generally full of complaints and exaggerations about players leaving the game, take them with a grain of salt.
The only things missing from endgame are (mandatory, stat based) gear grind and huge instanced “raids”. If you’re not hardcore about these things in other games, you shouldn’t have any problems here.
As of now, the game is still good for me. Been playing since beta. The thing which has become most boring for me, is leveling alts through the first 30 levels due to the similarity of all professions at low levels and lack of build variety due to trait/skill unlocks up to about that level. By the time this became boring though, I had enough gold on my mains to use crafting to supplement the early leveling process on alts, so it’s not a big deal compared to other games. I don’t farm or speed-run dungeons or anything, I mostly play WvW and open world PvE, which are generally considered the least profitable activities, and I don’t have any problem with gold how in some other games I’d have to “farm” for several hours a week just to do PvP.
There are definitely things that could be better, but it’s sill the best MMO for my playstyle. Especially the way grouping, loot and resources are handled, cooperation among players in naturally encouraged and easy. Coming from playing healers and tanks in other games it’s refreshing to let everyone worry about their own health and aggro, for players used to just one role though it may take some adjustment. Just remember: don’t try to “tank” and everyone is their own healer, and can also heal/support everyone else (that’s really simplified, there’s more depth when you get into combo fields and boon/condition management and CC….. but it’s a start).
I actually laughed when seeing this thread. I might not personally like GW2 all that much, but it’s funny how forum posters seem to actually succeed in giving new players the impression GW2 is dying. I get into overflows every day I play, enough said.
thats a good review Thrashbarg
Now the only thing i might hate is the freaking huge size of the download . seriously i never thought games these days exceed 20 GB !!
Hey can anyone tell me if my lappy can play the game at full graphics with less lag ?
Specs are :
acer i5 processor
1 gb nvidia GT520M Ram
4 gb ddr3 ram
are these specs enough to play this game at full swing ?
Those specs will NOT allow you to play at full graphics, especially not in WvW and bigger meta-event.

I have to dis-agree here with you. It highly depends on the kind of I5 and the kind of memory. But I’m playing with a budget system on full graphics while only having problems in the really really busy events where people move a lot. This is in the middle of zerg’s in WvWvW and in the high level events.
But for example a static behemoth fight runs smoothly, prolly cause the people mostly stand still and don’t move that often.

I am thinking more of the Graphic card rather than the processor though. It is a rather weak card and that will most likely effect performance.

Ive been playing gw2 since 2nd beta and almost have like 1700 hours; best game ever !! : D
Im not a hardcore gamer, neither did i play an mmo for more than 100 hours, but gw2 is just entertaining 100% of the time. Pretty graphics/landscapes/clothes and character design, no gear grind etc!
I could write a whole book about how awesome it is (i would repreqt the same thing over and over again though), but for now ill stay silent.
My tip when you first start playing: just run around and see what you find.
Id also recommend joining a fun casual guild, because its ven better when youre not alone.
My guild is just what youre looking for, a fun with both casual and hard core players guild. Feel free to whisper me in game or send me a PM on the forums if youre interested in joining! I think you have to be on an EU server
Cheers,

it will take days for me to complete download since im only going around 50-100 kbps…hey since i bought the game from the official site do they deliver the box with cd or…..is the client download is the only way to go ?
Sorry, downloading is the only way. The boxed version is just a DVD case with the code on a card.
In GW1 the only endgame stuff was a flashy weapon and that’s about it, yet GW1 went on strong for ages, so I wouldn’t be all that worried about GW2.
I have to disagree Garambola, when I received GW2 as a gift it came in a box from the store. Just as every other game I’ve purchased so far and it come on CD/DVD’s that I could install from.
However my install didn’t take forever it was the downloading and updating of patches that took me forever. Sadly it was all day event, and it sucked up all my bandwidth rendering my computer virtually useless for anything else net related.
Except that the DvDs/CD is the box are completely outdated and the update is as big as the game itself. That’s the story with all MMOs. Ten months after launch, you’re better off downloading anyway.
That may have been my problem? Though I hadn’t really thought of that, but my response was more towards the “No you can’t get it on CD/DVD” cause you can… XD
Just obviously wouldn’t advise it for the difference in the downloading of the updates. I hadn’t even thought of using the online download myself, I started the install off my disks before I even signed up for the game…
Gah, I always just install from the internet, even though I have the discs.
Gah, I always just install from the internet, even though I have the discs.
That’s the smart way to go. XD I did that with WoW when I got a new computer, glad I did considering they’ve been releasing new patches and updates recently like mad crazy! XD
Gw2.dat is 17.8GB here. The actual download should be a bit smaller since there is some wasted space from updates. Having the DVD should still save you a big chunk of downloading but that isn’t an option if you got the digital edition.
If you have the DVD then the downloads for updates should be somewhere around 3-5GB.
When you are done downloading I recommend making a backup.
I will just say now… 8gb RAM and a solid i7 and i still cant always play on max graphics. WvW without culling (not that I mind that) is HUGE
“War does not determine who is right – only who is left.”
i have the GT520, 3gb DDR3 ram and a far weaker CPU and I get 30 FPS on medium-low graphics (which still looks awesome may I add) everywhere except where there are large amounts of people (i.e. WvW).

Um, NO. Guild Wars is NOT dying out.. And plus.. the way it’s built, there’s new content all of the time and there also is a BUTLOAD of room for expansion. So NOOOO. Play the game and ENJOY. It’s a wonderful adventure! I love GW2!
Loads of people playing on my server, Seafarers Rest, also from the hordes of Viznuh blobs in WvW, they run around all 4 maps with multiple 100+ blobs…really…

Please don’t compare GW1 to GW2. I like GW2, but it will never be what GW1 was to me.
While GW2 may not be dead, you can’t deny how empty most of the zones are. OP I hope you didn’t create an account on BP.
12gb finished….hey is the combat in this game similar to the one in Fable : the lost chapters ? coz i really like simple combat like in fable.

You mean just like most outpost were in GW1?

I really don’t think comparing Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2 is fair….to Guild Wars 1.
Guild Wars 2 has far more sales in the same amount of time than Guild Wars 1 ever had. It’s got more content, a much bigger world that Guild Wars 1 at launch and on top of that, it’s more main stream. Guild Wars 1 was always a niche game. And it was a lobby game…a CoRPG, not an MMO.
Yes, I agree, it’s completely unfair to compare Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2.
