I have had this account since pre launch but until I found about champ train and etc I would only play for a week a month then get frustrated and quit. Now I have gotten really good at the game however I feel like its too late to do anything because people who have been playing consistently since launch have more AP than I will ever have and I will never catch up. It’s so freaking stressful trying to get AP and the first thing anyone ever does when they see you in game is look at your AP and most people won’t even talk to you if you have less than 8k AP.

And by the time I get more AP, the others will have even more and we can never catch up. And then you got people saying stuff like, “oh, don’t worry about AP – just have FUN and ENJOY!” but the reality of the situation is that if you don’t have high AP you aren’t worth anything to your guild, or the people in map chat. All day they just brag about how they can finish monthlies in 30 minutes and have 4 legendries on each character, and I can’t cope with it all anymore I wish I could just die IRL cus the stress of this game as well as everything is just too much now

Find new people to hang out with. Not everyone cares for APs. All they mean is that people have experienced many parts of the game. It doesn’t make them good players. Keep doing what you want to do and you’ll eventually find like minded people.

AP? Oh, yeah, achievement points…who cares. As zenleto said, high AP doesn’t mean they are good players. Mainly, played tons of time seeing or doing different things. That number doesn’t really do much to illustrate how well a person plays the game. Play with someone else if they are being ‘elitist’. There are many players out there that pay little to any attention to AP numbers. Just have fun and if the stress level gets too great, take a break. Its just a game for fun times. I have fewer than 6.5k and have been playing since beta. When I get AP, then great —it brings me closer to extra gold (from the AP chests), but otherwise I don’t care.

Don’t freak out too much about AP. Say you get what you wanted and get into the top AP list. You’ll have to do every daily achievement every day in order to stay relevant in just the top 100 or so. At that point it’ll probably just end up being tedious for you.

Just do what you want at your own pace. If people are talking down on you because you “only” have a couple thousand AP, chances are those are people not even worth acknowledging in the first place.

This person is correct; you don’t want to spend time with players like this.

Not an hour ago, I came across 3 players who were doing a champ. 2 were dead, one was going to die in seconds. They had ignored the ranged adds who were free to whittle them away and of course champs can hit hard.

I took out add the adds and the other mobs they had aggro’d and they rallied when adds went down; we finished the champ (whose health they had barely touched).

They invited me to group (and this time it worked; party join usually fails for me…another story…one of the bugs I have in game).

They kicked me because I have low Ap. These elite pros just couldn’t waste their time with a low Ap carebear/noob/scrub etc (think they called me a carebear scrub).

I remembered why I am not upset about usually being unable to join a group. Anyway, I just do what I enjoy in the game, I just do not care about AP or impressing anyone either.

I don’t know if it’s different on the NA servers but the only time I’ve seen anyone mention AP is some dungeon speed run groups, and even then it’s not all of them and they usually ask for 5k+

I’ve been playing since launch and haven’t taken any long breaks and I’ve only just hit 8K the other day but I’ve never had trouble finding groups for anything I want to do in game. I’ve definitely never heard of anyone checking your AP before speaking to you, I don’t even know if you can check unless you’re in the same guild or party.

I could say, like everybody else, that AP doesn’t matter. Don’t give a crap about those who say something because of your low AP, it mean almost nothing. Play as you want and that’s it. But i don’t think that its what you want to hear.

Will you catch up with the rest of us at 10k+ AP? With the 4k AP from the temporary content that you can’t do anymore and the 7k AP from the daily and monthly since the beginning of the game, no there is no chance that you can catch up. That said, you don’t necessarily need to catch up the top of the chart. To be honest, most people care about AP only if you have less than 1k. Because at that point, you are basically new at the game, and that make people worry when it come to dungeon. At 3K AP, nobody will say anything, except for some specific speed run that ask for a specific amount of AP (but even if I have 12k AP, I went into only 1 of those run). Here two advice for you.
1) Find you another guild. Pugs that don’t know you, you can understand. They don’t have much to figure out if you gonna slow them down and make their run a living hell, or if your ok. That’s why they use AP, its a terrible indicator, but that’s the only one they got. But in your own guild? Either, they really have a high opinion of themselves or you simply play so little with them, that they know you as much as a pug. Anyway, changing of guild is maybe a good idea.
2) Go for the AP if you really want to have a good amount. Not all of them are easy to get, but a lot of them are. The bosses achievement are nice to do, except maybe Triple Wurm (it can be hard to do if you never done it before). Jumping Puzzle were a blast to do with my friend. If you are into that and you do that with someone else, it a couple of day of fun while doing your AP. The WvW season 2 is up, its a 259 AP easy to get if your into that. Map completion is something that most people try to do. While doing it, you can complete several achievement. And of course the monthly and daily is a great source of AP if you do them everytime.

I’ve been playing for a year or so and only have a little more than 5k AP. Important thing to do is to not stress out about it… I’ve never really had to work hard to get them. I haven’t done any dailies for like months now, and the last LS I attempted was the battle for LA one (which was about a month ago I think). Like most people said, it doesn’t really matter how much AP you have, or how many legendaries or how much gold you have. Its just that if you have really low AP, people will assume you are new and treat you that way.

For instance when I was starting out for months I had below 2k AP, I would get kicked a lot from groups for making small mistakes, and most times I didn’t even deserve it. Now if I join a group and see someone below 1k AP, I’ll assume they’re new and we have to carry them. It sucks to label people this way, but thats usually how it works. For the most part though, AP doesn’t mean much. I’ve seen people with 10k screw up something or not know what to do (like for console in CoE P1) and we have to kick them to save us from a wipe. Just don’t stress out about it, most groups usually trust anyone with 3k+ AP to know what to do.

AP is just not a solid indication of a player’s competence or, equally important, their attitude. I’ve seen some people with high AP blunder just as hard as those with low AP.

In fact, most of the time, I don’t even look at a player’s AP unless I’m curious, and 99.99999% of the it’s in a moment of boredom in the wait for everyone to turn up and get ready and 99.99999% of the time, I’m just “Oh, okay.”

Who checks AP? Never been kicked/called out because of a lack of AP/ (4k in the year and a half I’ve played). If there are pug groups asking for x amount of AP I don’t join, even if I meet the requirements. I find such groups reprehensible, but thats how they want to roll. Thats ok, let them. Don’t trip about it. AP doesn’t really mean anything anyway, so don’t kill yourself trying to get to those higher levels of AP. Relax, take a deep breath, and next time someone tries to talk smack about your level of AP, just ignore them and move on.

Yup, you may want to guest in other servers until you find one with a better atmosphere. I’ve never encountered AP elitism on SBI (although I don’t really care, so that might affect my experience) and the only time we talk about AP in my guild is when someone says “Hey, I got my AP chest!”. We congratulate them and continue doing our stuff.

I don’t have a legendary, heck most people I know don’t have one. I can do my daily in 30 minutes… if the list is an easy one and I’m on a WvW zerg, capping stuff and killing enemies. For example, I got my monthly WvW killer in an hour when I went to EB for reset last Friday. I hadn’t even realized it was monthly reset day! However, outside of big killing zergs, getting my dailies takes a bit more time.

With a character at 100% exploration, I know of a few good spots for some dailies: wurms are easy to dodge, the Thermanauva reactor has lots of species and lots of NPCs to revive, Soren Draa has a lot of ambient creatures, Queensdale train is good for group events and champions, etc. If you have an aquatic killer and a (region) killer, you can combine it by killing underwater creatures in that region.

Daily and monthly AP is capped at 10k and 5k, respectively. Soon, the top people will stop getting AP from those and you can catch up. However, there is quite a bit you will of missed in the living story. Even so, you should be able to get within a couple thousand AP of 1st place given enough time.
which brings up another thing: why do you need to be competitive in AP? The only people that care about it are people who are winning it (I have a guildie in the top-200 and he simply must do every single daily. It sometimes takes him like 2-4 hours). To everyone else, anything between 3k and 20k is ‘oh look, an ally!’ (and <3k is ‘noobie, let me help you’)

huh. 15.7k AP is 1000th, 15.6k AP is 90%, 3.4k AP is 90%, 3k AP is 80%, 1.8k AP is 70%, 1.1k AP is 60%, 800 AP is 50%.
must be a LOT of never-used accounts out there.
TIL I’m 1,612 AP away from being 1000th place :P

If your value of yourself and other players in this game is all based on Achievement Points and Titles, you either need to seriously adjust your values, find other players to hang out with or go find another game to play. If you actually enjoy playing the game, then do so and learn to ignore anyone that tends to brag in game.

The fact that you are “worried” about your AP score compared to others is what SHOULD worry you.

I have nearly 10k. I’m actually intimidated by folks who are near or above my AP and I prefer seeing folks with a much lower AP. Probably over generalizing, but I like to think they haven’t done everything and haven’t been everywhere and the game is still an adventure for them, rather than a grind fest. The only time a low AP gets an eyebrow raise from me is if they’re bagging on other players and have 1.5k to their account.

I like getting lots of AP, because it is a nice goal for me to go for (and I love the achievement chests!). I look at AP during dungeons etc. and I sometimes think "wow, that guy has a lot of AP. But never have I seen people that were being elitist about AP (I always kept up with the standard though, had 5K when it was demanded). You are just hanging out with the wrong people. Get a new guild with people who don’t think they are better, but who are better!

As a lot of others here have said, high AP is meaningless. I’ve played high level fractals with high AP players who have failed miserably. One of my guildies only has 3k and she outplays most pugs that I’ve gone with who have 5k or even 10k more. Pre fractals patch, when the levels were capped at 50, she’s come and done 51+ with us. In the guild I’m in, I have one of the higher AP counts at almost 9.5k. Whoop di doo. Another guildie is approaching 10k and he is terrified of the idea of going into high level fractals but he’s pretty good at regular dungeons and wvw.

AP’s mean little. Knowing the strength of your character(s) in whatever you play in is all.
