is it possible to play this game on another PC
friend wants to try-before-buy and i’m wondering if he can just download it on his computer and use my account for a couple hours. anything to prevent this?
Not that I know of… assuming you want to be banned for TOS violations.
Technically possible but risky and probably against TOS. Anet is watching for unusual logins from different locations due to all the hacked accounts.
I definitely would not advise it. Invite your friend over or have them watch one of the many Youtube fanmade videos of actual play.
Ya its fine. You went to your friends place and played the game.
Just remember you will have to authorize the new connection via email (iirc)
Yes it is possible to play on as many computers as you want. I’m playing on two different computers, desktop and laptop. You can even copy paste the client from machine to machine. Your account is not computer dependant. Authorization always needed when you log in from new IP.
So technically it is possible but the question is that do you really want to give your account information to anyone? I never would.
It is possible, I play on 2 computers myself and went to a friend to show him the game on his comp, no prob there.. He tested the game for a few hours and was hooked, so he bought the game the same day.. Hands on experience is good publicity imho..
It would most likely be a TOS-type violation not because it’s another computer, but because you’d be giving your account information to someone else.
Like someone else said, just invite him over. That’d still be a “grey area”, but it’s not like they’d be watching you in your house if he just happened to take over the keyboard.
I wouldn’t give a friend full access to my account (think you need that to even download the client in the first place), even if I really liked them. :P
Another risk to giving your account info is that you might both try to accidentally log on at the same time. You don’t realise he’s playing or still playing and you try to – your account could get frozen, especially with 3rd parties being hacked and people losing control of their accounts because of that.

<sarcasm>Yeah it would be impossible to let a friend play it, without giving out your account info</sarcasm>
^_^
It probably is a violation of TOS but noone really cares. Ussualy you don’t want even if you trust your friend with your life but I do it anyway.
A little note though. Since he is logging on a new IP with your account, I believe he will need an e-mail authorization to acess the game after logging in.
