Buy ascended gear through laurels and be effective in fractals of higher levels? or do I NEED to do guild stuff and fractals to get the VERY BEST OF THE BEST in order to be ready for higher level fractals?

The short answer is both.

Guild Missions are for accessories.

Laurels are for amulets and rings.

Back pieces can’t be gotten through either of the two above mentioned methods.

Your information is not true. Or I am not interpreting your info correcly. I got an Exotic Guild Defender Backpack from completing the Guild Bounty mission. so you can get back piece from Guild missions

So I HAVE….HAVE….to participate in guild based activities to get ALL the ascended gear released?

You can get exotic back pieces elsewhere but he was talking about the ascended infused back pieces. Currently those are only available through fractals or crafting.

Yeah, my bad… I had assumed that when we were talking about Fractals that people would assume ascended gear since its superior because of AR. Even so, ascended gear is better, since it has larger numbers, but the only downside is that I’m not sure if all stat combinations are represented in ascended gear.

There is no ascended gear that you can only get from guild missions, you can get earrings, rings and amulets from laurels and ectos. The ascended back pieces are still fractals only. There are some certain of the newer stat combinations that can’t be infused yet, though they can still have an infusion added in the infusion slot. I assume that is a bug and will be fixed at some point.

Ah, thats right. I totally forgot about the laurels and ectos for the accessories. I would never go down that route which is why I forgot about it. Personally, it makes more sense for me to do guild related stuff to get the accessories.

You cannot get a full set of the currently available Ascended gear just from laurels.

However some people were able to hit the max level in Fractals before anything other than rings and back pieces was available. Therefore you do not need a full set of Ascended gear to play higher level Fractals. You could probably get enough Agony Resistance just from laurels.

basically the only ascended item that cannot be gained from laurels is the back piece, ascended back pieces are limited to crafting from scratch or upgrading the fractal capacity.

that said I wouldn’t recommend getting all your gear via laurels else you’ll be at it for a while, start with the amulet first once you hit level 10 fractals do your daily maw constantly for rings while you work on accessories with laurels again.

In the process of going 1-10 you should find the mist essence to create the back pack (or enough fractal tokens to get capacitor) by time you hit 20 you should be able to get around 20 AR (not a total reduction but enough for it not to be deadly) and start work on upgrading your rings and back piece while you go for your next accessory.
