any difference in the number of ectos you get between a master salvage kit and a black lion salvage kit

I believe that the number does not change per item but the chance of either getting ectos or not changes.

not by much (the chance, amount of ectos are the same), not enough to justify the cost of BLSK. Use BL only if there is and expensive rune/sigil on the item.

If you plan on salvaging a lot of rares for ectos, then yes, BL kits do make a noticeable difference. You salvage ectos at a consistently higher rate with these kits than you do with a master kit.

It is up to you to decide if this is worth it or not …

If I am not mistaken they changed the drop rate of ectos to an even lower rate! Black Lion slavage kits should really only be used on level 68 rares and up, if anything.

Officially, drop rates on ectos have not been altered.

And there is differing opinion on whether BLSK yields a better return on ectos than a master salvage kit. I haven’t read anything that definatively answers this.

But for me personally, BLSK does not yield high enough returns to justify the cost in using them. I only have BLSKs accumulated from dailies and the such and I save those for when I really want the upgrade off of an item. If you are swimming in BLSKs, it probably wouldn’t hurt.

My opinion don’t buy them specifically for ectos, if you get them for free then use. Buy for removing upgrades.

People claim it makes no difference but I can tell you that I got far more ectos when I used Black Lion kits on rares. Something like 50% more overall when compared to using a master kit. But at the current price of Black Lion kits and the value of rares it’s not worth using anything other than a master kit.

I’m working on a video of bl salvaging at least 200 rares to get an idea of a rate, not done yet obviously but maybe it will help give an idea heh.

I have used about 20 stacks of BLSK to salvage rares for globs. With the recent buff to world boss chest, I started using master kits. Farming shelt/pen before the patch, I was happy with 2-5 rares in a two hour farming session. Now being able to get 20+ rares over a few toons in the same time is what made me want to use master kits.

I have not recorded any real numbers but I cannot see a difference. If there is one, it is not large enough to really notice. With how much it cost to buy BLSK’s, I do not believe it to be a wise purchase and use of your funds, gold or cash.
