It unlocks the sunrise daysword recipe, which is in the “legendary weapons” section under the Collections tab, located in the Achievements panel. From there, you need to do events and collect trophies in order to unlock the next levels to craft.

no, the collection doesn’t exist until you get the ‘collection volume book thing’
Some of the NPCS that have the items will only sell them to you once you have the collection. In fact some of them do not sell anything, until you have the collection.
some of the NPCS you need to talk to, wont even talk to you about anything until you unlock the collection.
