Guild Wars 2

I just got the game and am looking for help on which profession to pick. I have never played WoW the last game i played that was MMORPG was Final Fantasy. I have read a little bit on the professions. I was looking at being a ranger, but i really want to just pick a profession and bring it up to lvl 80. I do not want to keep switching between characters and professions. Any suggestions on what is a good way to go. I have friends to level up with so i do not need to constantly solo on this game.

The best way to go is to pick whichever one looks the most awesome, and never look back. If you don’t have any other information to go by, then why worry about picking one profession over another?

Any of them is viable. This may sound unhelpful; pick the one you think you will enjoy the most. Each one has its own different feel, and what appeals to me may not appeal at all to you.

having never played wow or others MMORPG’s can in fact be an advantage, in this game, due to how a lot of things work a lot different, specially the combat.

If you want any kind of help with what profession to pick, you need to give us some idea of what kinda of playstyle you want (and please be a bit specific, just saying something generic like “I want a ranged dmg dealing with big numbers” wont help at all, as pretty much all professions can do that etc)

I want a profession that is good for PvE & WvW. I liked being more of a tank in Final Fantasy. I want a profession that is pretty easy to level up on and that will not require a party to help lvl up all the time.

need to be a lot more specific, any and all professions can be good at pve, and more o rless same counts for wvw. as for tanking that dont really exist in gw2 (no holy trinity here), but anyone can be durable. and there is more than enough content that any class can solo.
So yeah its not so much what you want to do, but how you want to do it, we need to know, either that or as others said read up on the professions and pick one that sound promising

You have several character slots available. Why not try each of the professions? You can delete the ones you don’t enjoy playing and keep the ones you do. Chances are, you’ll enjoy more than just one profession anyways.
