just hit 80 with my warrior after playing a few weeks and am having plenty of fun.
I have bought HoT sometime during leveling and I would like to progress through the “GW2 Stories” in the correct order.
As I understand it I should be doing LW2 after finishing personal story + LW1 flashback before starting on the HoT story (correct me if im wrong..).
However with LW2 needing purchase and LW3 coming up, I was wondering if I should put off purchasing it for now in hopes of a sale – maybe even making LW2 free? What do you guys think?

I doubt it will ever be free. It may go on sale again. You are able to experience the story if you can find someone to go with you. You just won’t be able to get the achievements.

The gem shop package is already 20% off from buying the episodes separately (1280 vs 1600 gems). Plus IIRC the cost is prorated if you have some unlocked.

That super discount was for just before LS3 started up, possibly as an apology for the very long preceding content drought. It was part of the hype to get people to come back to the game, encouraging them to pick up the LS2 story so as to play through it and HoT LS for context so they’d be more invested in LS3.

Those factors are no longer so much in play, so imminent sales aren’t likely, especially as there wasn’t one in the last week or two to lead up to this episode release. Possibly there will be Cyber Monday and XMas sales, but without a guarantee of this you might want to go ahead and not wait on an indefinite on spec.

As simplesimon notes, if the story itself is your main concern, you can get someone else to run the instances with you so you can see that part. Achievements and rewards (and the ability to do object and dialogue interactions) will come only if you are the one starting the instance, but you can decide later on that you want that part of things and buy the episodes to redo for yourself.

No, the package deal was always 20% off since they first started offering it in the gem shop as a package versus buying each separately. That was April 16th, 2015.

ANet simply reminded people that it’s there as it’s and upgrade that vanishes from the store if you didn’t need it so players who have LS2 fully unlocked wouldn’t even see it in the store and therefore forget it’s an option to players who don’t have it.
